How many actual owners of 2006 are on the board? Not much activity. Does this indicate we have such great vehicles nothing needs to be discussed. My van has just over 2K on it and has a few minor problems. Oil pan gasket drips about one drop each evening and brakes squeal when cold, just out of garage. Will ask dealer to check out and fix when in for service / oil in a few thousand. Am getting almost the advertised mileage on road. Wife drives 3/4 mile to work and back (getting nice enough to walk?) and only gets about 15 mpg on those short trips. Very happy with vehicle overall. Takes some getting used to switching between 05 Spectra, 82 VW camper and 06 Sedona as all drive completely differently.
Howdy,
We've had our Grand Carnival for a couple of months now and no problems to report (touch wood). The family of five recently went on a trip of around 800kms and the car was excellent. The Australian model has 3 individual seats in the middle row so all kids were moved to the middle and the rear row dropped into the floor. This gave heaps of room for a portable cot, clothes, fishing gear, esky, food and all the rest of the stuff you need whenever kids go somewhere even for a couple of nights. The only minor complaint I have is that at highway speeds there is some wind noise from around the A-pillar/windscreen/side mirror. Anyone else experience this? Any ideas on solutions (other than turning up the stereo).
Speaking of things being quiet out there, Kia Australia are keeping very quiet. This model has been available in Australia for months, yet most people don't know it even exists. Kia Australia has virtually no mention of it on their web site, and I have never seen any advertising on TV or in local newspapers for this model. They regularly update their site with other news and do plenty of advertising of Rios, Carnivals, etc but never mention the Grand Carnival. Any theories on why this might be the case?
Hi Bert
The reason they have not had a big advertising push is that they are not yet available in large numbers. In Sydney we have up to a 3 week wait to get one when ordered, this came from a kia dealer so i would tend to agree with him on this.Cheers Len
Maybe Kia are trying to runout of the old carnivals, and tend to agree with Len, there is maybe not many available. Personally I think they look great on road, and the engine and fuel consumption seem pretty comparable to the old carnival.
Waiting to see how they fare after a few kilometres.
Howdy,
Yep, I kind of thought it was probably a supply of new vs. run out of old model issue. When we bought ours mid February we had to wait for a couple of weeks for them to locate and transport one from Victoria (partly because we wanted one with the curtain airbag option) so even then supply was probably a bit short.
Interestingly, I got home from work today and there is an advertisement in the local paper and the local dealer is offering auto Carnivals at $26,990 +ORC which they suggest is about $4,500 less than Kia's recommended/normal price. However, the manufacturer's recommended price for the Grand Carnival appears to have increased by $1,000 from 1 May and is now $37,990. Again, this is probably just indicative of the runout/ supply process mentioned before. $11,000 is a big difference between the two models though !!!
We've had our '06 for 6 days now. So far we're happy with it and no problems (there better not be @ 200 miles). We had twin boys last November and it quickly became obvious that our G35 isn't quite the family vehicle we need. Once the safety reports came out on the new Sedona, our decision was made.
I was just reading some press article on the release of the new carnival short wheel base. Aparrently going to have the same engine as the Grand Carnival. It is apparently going to be released in June at the same price point as the old Carnival $29,990. So I can understand the need to drop the price of the runout models.
Hope all is going well with your Grand Carnival's.
Hi Ashley
According to our local dealer the new Carnival will have the 2.7ltr engine as used in Hyundai's.He also said that it may be an 8 seater as well,it will be sold with the same equipment as the current Carnival.Cheers Len
Yes it was probably a release of the vehicle somewhere else in the world. Sometimes it is easy to forget where you are on the internet. It makes the world so small.
Hope they keep a seven seat set up with the central isle. For a family of four it has been the best setup. The only other car like it is the Hyundai Trajet. Which is all in the family anyway.
