Hello,
Could somebody tell me if the new Sedona has captains chairs in the middle row like the old one? Somebody told me that the new one has ordinary seats without the arms!! I hope he's wrong because the old seats are really comfortable and I might have to think of changing vehicle next time if they have gone.

Does anybody know please?

Kirky

Hi Kirky
In Australia the Grand Carnival has 3 seperate seats in the middle & they are not captains chairs as in the smaller Carnival. They are still very comfortable & they all recline seperately & slide seperately. It is also a much nicer package than the Carnival.Cheers Len

My EX has middle captains with armrests (leather) but the armrests do not adjust to various angles like the front ones do. I have to tilt the seats back to get the armrests level. Anyone know if the LX has armrests? George.

My '06 Sedona LX has captains chairs in the second row -- I think they adjust like the front seats except for height.

Hello again,
Thanks for all your replies, but I think we are getting confused here. My original question was aimed at the all new 06 model, the one that has the third row of seats that disappear into the floor. I did not mean an 06 'registered' Sedona, which although is '06' it is actually the old model.

So, can I ask once again please? Does anyone know if the all new 06 model (the one where the third row of seats disappear into the floor) has captain's chairs in the second row?

Many thanks.

Kirky

Hi Kirky
Here in Australia the 06 model is called the Grand Carnival,it has 8 seats set up in a 2 3 3 configuration. The middle row of seats are not captains chairs as in the earlier 7 seat version although they are 3 seperate seats whereas the rear seats are a 60/40 split.I am not sure about the UK & US models.Hope this helps.Cheers Len

Hi Kirky,

The all-new Sedona has middle row captain's chairs in the US and Canada but, as described by Len, here in Australia the same vehicle is named the Grand Carnival and has 3 individual chairs in the middle row. In all countries the rear row has a 3 position 60-40 split that folds into the floor. (note, I have also seen pictures of a version on sale in Korea with 4 rows squeezed in there to seat 11).

The Kia web site (http://www.kiamotors.com/Common/img/MS/ca_ver.html) has pictures and info about the "shortie" Sedona to be released in Europe, and presumably elsewhere, and states.......

"The all-new Carnival line-up offers customers significant new benefits - particularly in the key areas of cabin space, seating comfort, accommodation versatility and overall packaging, so important to MPV buyers.

Making best use of the wider cabin, New Carnival's seven individual seats are now mounted in a 2+3+2 layout (compared with 2+2+3 in the previous model) and combine superior support with generous proportions to accommodate drivers and passengers of all shapes and sizes. The multi-adjustable front seats have 530 mm wide cushions, while all the other passenger seats are 500 mm wide, except the centre, middle row seat which is a little narrower at 460 mm.

All five middle and back row seats can be individually moved fore/aft, reclined, folded forwards, tipped up or completely removed. To maximize Carnival's versatility these removable seats have a modest weight, so they can be easily handled. Luggage space ranges from 214 liters (all seats occupied) up to a massive 3,423 liters when the middle and back row seats are removed."

From the pictures of the new SWB Sedona, it looks quite neat, but it appears that it misses out on fold into the floor rear seats, and does not look to have much room for luggage. It also has a smaller engine in the SWB version (2.7l with 4 speed auto vs 3.8l 5 speed auto)

Hope this helps,
Bert.

Hello Bert,
Thanks for a very comprehensive reply. It was very helpful.

I thought I would just add a little note. I have just had the 20,000 mile service on my 04 Sedona, and while I was at the KIA dealer, I asked about the new 06 model, the one with the third row of seats that disappear into the floor. They knew absolutely nothing about it at all. In fact they said that their salesmen were not due to go on the sales course for the new Sedona untril July, and they weren't expecting any new '06' Sedonas until August???????????

Remember this is the 'new 06' Sedona we are talking about, and they will not be out over here in the UK until August.........What on earth is going on????

Kirky.

Kirky my guess would be they haven't sorted the diesel version out yet, all the versions out in the Australia and America seem to be the Hyundai V6.

As i say my guess would be they are working on a diesel version, as that's what 99% of the european market is.
