I have a Sedona 2007. The second row nearside seat will not fold to removal position only folds down with rear catches still locked. I would appreciate any help on this issue.
Just picked up low mileage 2007 EX. All in all a nice min-van and it was 6000K. Had 80K miles. Owners pulled it behind their RV.
I dug into the seat just a bit and it looks like the cable stretches over time. The seat I'm having trouble with is the driver's side. Thinking it got the most use in terms of its lever/cable.
The "main" cable goes to a junction box where it splits to both sides of the lock in the rear bottom hooks. One side cable pulls far enough to unlock the mechanism. The inside latch. The outside latch, one facing the sliding door, only opens just a bit, not far enough to fully unlatch.
I was going to take the cover off the little junction box, has 4 small screws, and see if there's a way to put a spacer on the cable side to make the cable just a little shorter. I see no adjustment barrel.
The only way I can see to get to the entire assembly so as to see what's going on is to remove the lower seat cushion. Not a big job but was trying to get a sense of what's going on before I dive too far in.
You do NOT have to remove the seat cushion, the latches can be unlocked from the undersid/rear of the seat. the cables have 'steps' in the outer collar that allows the cale to be adjusted. when the seats are unlucked all the cables can be accesed with the two side covers (plastic) rmoved.
Thanks. Looks like they are all the way out. I can see "steps" but there doesn't seem to be any more distance I can move them. Picture would be great of course but can't grab one right now.
I'm on the right track though? Cable just needs to be tightened a bit some how? Gets a bit of stretch to it and then it isn't long enough to activate the lock mechanism?
From memory the cable can be tightened from both ends (maybe not). if so tighten at the pivot end then loosen at the latch end of the one that would e too tight. A bit of grease on the mech may be wise as i've had to replace a couple on the pass (curb/gutter) side, from broken cables.
Thanks again. As I see the cables the way this thing works is the lever that allows the seat to go forward and pop the two latches that hold the seat on the floor is a single cable from the lever on the outside aspect of the seat and connects to the coupler under the seat, it snaps into the seat frame, divides into two cables, those two cables to to the hook/latches for the floor mechanism-latches.
When you refer to the pivot end are you referring to that junction box or the lever and the single cable? I can't see how to get to the lever end without taking seat cushion out. The junction box however is quite accessible.
Four little screws hold what looks to be a cover plate on that box. Not sure what is inside that junction box as in how it goes from one cable to two.
If I can shorten the one cable it will pull the two cables further of course.
The floor latch that isn't opening far enough is just the one on the door side, or outside.
Since you've replaced broken ones I'm assuming the cables can be ordered. Haven't seen them on kia parts or any of the kia online parts places.
Cleaned and lubed but outside latch still not popping open. I can see the main pin, sticks out and has a green plastic rubbery cap on it, move. Just doesn't move far enough. Can manually move it full way and the latch pops open and seat pivots forward.
Inside the box with four screws is a slide with three holes, the cenre one gows to the single cable the outer two go to the twin pull cables. the single cable goes to the back pivoy I think opposite the tilt adjust. I remember removing all the plastic trim around the seat, not sure why??????
Thanks again. I can spend all day looking for a part as I can't figure out what they call it. Quite annoying actually.
You have to take the side plastic covers off to get to the mechanisms and the cover off the bottom of the seat. Its held in place with what I used to call hog clips.
Not working on it at the moment. Chores, etc., that are a higher priority.
Kinda hot and humid here in Phoenix today as well.
The cable just needs some place where I can adjust it. Doesn't seem like it should be too difficult IF there's an adjustment. Wish it had a barrel adjuster like the shifters and brakes on my bicycle.
All the blowups I can find for the seats don't show that cable nor how its routed. The repair manual I have, while it shows a ton of stuff, doesn't show these seats either.
"cable that broke was the 's' at the seat back pivot."
That would require more disassembly to get to the end of that back release/pivot/lever where the cable would attach. The end of that lever is buried down alongside the seat frame/cushion. To get to it you'd have to take the side of the seat apart. More than the plastic covers over the various latches.
That part looks like on cable, not the three-assembly thing. So you can replace each cable section, for lack of a better word, which again goes back to that junction box? All three cables the same?
Is there a secret to opening that junction box? I see the four screws but looks like some kind of tabs, something else and before I go muscling the thing thought I'd ask.
The worst that could happen by damaging the cable junction box is that you will need a new cable assembly, which if the cables are at their max adjustment you will propbaly need to get any way.
Wow thanks. Now I can grab a picture of it and ask Kia parts place in the US if they have this part. I wonder if the one cable they show, as you found, on the parts diagram is actually the entire assembly? Easy to see the steps which can be used for adjustment on the barrel ends too.
A more complete disassembly would also allow for thorough cleaning and lube.
Might be the best option if simple adjustment doesn't make the latch work.
Did not see anything like this on US eBAY. I just looked. Some one selling new seat parts for an outrageous amount however. I guess you only need to sell one.
Numbers on the cable in the picture are the same part number listed on Kia Parts Overstock for the part. Might be ordering one this morning.
