Momentary loss of power/engine dies
Just wondered if anybody could shed some light on a problem I've got with my 51 reg (Feb 2002) 2.9 diesel Sedona.
Whilst driving I frequently experience a momentary but extreme loss of power. On occasions this is followed by a prolonged loss of power/poor acceleration and then almost always the engine stops as I slow to stop or negotiate a corner. When the engine stops it is necessary to use the hand primer in order to pump fuel into the filter and then the engine will start (sometimes a little reluctantly).
Immediately prior to the first occurrence of this problem the fuel level had got a little low, but not so low that the low warning light was on (ok it did flash on once before I refilled) so I do appreciate that the two could be related.
In the Owner's Manual, the instructions for using the Primer states "Pump fuel into the fuel filter from the fuel tank by squeezing the priming pump until the fuel filter is filled to the full" How would I know when it is full?
Also is it actually possible to drain the sedimenter with the the filter in situ? I have quite small hands but can't see how I could drain it into or onto anything other than whatever is immediately below the filter.
The filter is the one described as Type A in the manual
