Do you really need to replace the fuel filter every 30k?

Sorry to ask another question. Looking at the owners manual online at Kia's site for a 2008 Kia Rondo, in the normal driving scheduled maintenance it states to replace the fuel filter every 30k, but in my previous Kia Optima, it was every 60k and when I asked the dealership they said that was outdated and I should go with 100k. Anyone else notice that or have thoughts on it?
Thanks
Kevin

Are you sure the manual is not talking about the fuel tank air filter (which is suppose to be changed every 30K)?

Unless you are in an area with very bad fuel quality 100000km+ [60000mile] is ok on a fuel filter. I have opened filters that have done over 160000km[100000 mile] and they were still clean. Those were canister type inline filters,I think the type in with the pump will virtually outlast the car in most cases.

I replaced the fuel tank air filter on my Rondo at 30K just to be sure there would be no problem with warranty. Most dealers do not have them in stock. I ordered one from:
mopardiscountparts.com
It probably is best to call so you can talk to them to get the right part. Very quick service and reasonable. I had my local mechanic install it, but it is easy and involves just dropping the spare tire to see it.

Sorry about the Canada snafu. There must be a source that will ship to Canada in Google.

As for whether the filter gets dirty, it is a sealed unit so there is no way to know without cutting it open, but I replaced the engine air filter and cabin filter at the same time and they were pretty dirty. By the way do these yourself as they take about 5 minutes to replace including washing your hands afterwards. The total cost for all three filters shipped for me was about $50 and I saved a lot of money. The engine air filter and cabin filter can be bought at auto parts stores but usually by special order the fuel air filter is a Kia only part.
