There's no fun in just giving my age, eh? So in the year I got my driver's licence, Canada celebrated its last Dominion Day, John DeLorean was stung by the FBI, and Randy Andy took a liking to Koo Stark (great film actress ).

36 here, with 2 kids (8 and 5). And like the original poster, it seems the other Rondo drivers in my area are typically 50+.

Regardless, I like to think that given the rising gas prices, I'm ahead of the curve of people downsizing from their minivans.

I owned a Honda Odyssey before my Rondo and boy it makes a difference at the pumps.

My wife and I are both 43. I traded in my S-10 P/U but still wanted the ability to haul stuff, so the Rondo suited me well. Just like Trevor and many others it is a great dog hauler too.

So the year got your driver's licence was the same year as the Falkland Conflict (not allowed to call it a war)? Not sure how old you were when you got your licence (here we measure it by the time you passed your test rather than the age for a provisional licence) but my guess is that you are in your mid-40's

Yep, I got my full licence during the same year as when Randy Andy heroically flew his whirlybird during the "conflict."

When I was a teenager in Saskatchewan, you could get a learner's permit at the age of 15, then go for the full licence once you turn 16. These days, it's more complicated than that. The regulations vary from province to province, but generally, you hold a learner's permit for about a year, then a probationary/novice licence for another year, then you can go for a full-fledged "I'm a big boy now" licence.

In British Columbia, you must display a large L or N decal on the back of your vehicle if you're in the Learner or Novice stage (presumably, so people can point and laugh at you because you're just an inexperienced newbie). I find it truly scary that Albertans can get a learner's permit at the ripe old age of 14 (I have two nieces in Alberta at this stage right now).

I'll be turning 42 in a few months, so mid-40s is close enough.

I'm 'only' 48!

I bought the Carens (Mk3) purely on its suitability for work, I don't get 'hyped' over cars for work, they just gotta do the job to the best of their ability & be reliable whilst offering a good compromise of head/leg room & speed/reasonable mpg. I'm 6ft 3" so leg room behind me is VERY important, to be kicked in the back every time someone jumps in gets annoying! My only criticism in just over 30,000 miles has been its poor urban mpg & a dealer that took too long to repair the faulty dpf system. Would I have another? At the monet the answer is yes, I'd love an auto but not until they fit a tiptronic 5 speed box for better mpg.

I bought my second Carens (Mk2) because it was heavy enough to tow my new caravan, I knew the marque including both good/bad sides, the car offered me all I needed with a purchase price that was excellent VFM.

Good thing Blow-in's a sleuth, as I'm not. The past twenty years (or is that thirty?) have been a bit of a blur anyway, looking at them here from the ripe old age of 50!

I think it's outlook, more than age, that draws the Rondo crowd. We mostly sound like pragmatists, and people who aren't afraid to be a little different. Those attributes may just be a little more common in the older crowd to which I now officially belong... and with relief to be honest. I'm so happy to be over most of the anxieties and fixations of youth.

I think Gottarondo is right... it's a matter of outlook. A friend bought a Nissan 350Z convertible around the same time that we got our Rondo. I think I know which of us will tire of his purchase first, after his first Summer is over and the rain sets in.

Oh... I'm 63, by the way. Does that make me the old fart of the group?
