Yesterday, I let my son in the Rondo for a few minutes while going to the drugstore. When I left the car, I locked the doors with the remote key. Short time later, my son tried to open the rear door, then horn and parking lights go on for about 30 seconds. The same thing if I pressed the panic button !!!
Is that normal? Anyone experimented the same thing?
yeah its called a car alarm. they go off when someone tries to get into your car while its locked. it deters thieves from stealing your stuff

If you want to test your standard fit door alarm, park the car with a window open then lock it and leave it for more than 30 secs then open the door via the window. Pressing the unlock on the remote will silence the alarm.....alternatively try locking one of your kids in the car!
A better way to lock a kid in the car is to press the internal locking switch on the driver's door. With that selected only the driver's door will open from the inside...exit the car and lock in the normal way. Now the kid has to climb in to the driver's seat to be able to open a door from inside.
The next tip is to park on a steep slope, lock the kid in the car and then see how long it takes him (it will be a 'him') to release the parking brake....this can really spoil your day but the insurance firm may pay for a new car....not a new kid though.
I didn't know the Rondo had an alarm either. I knew about the panic feature but not the alarm. Actually isn't there a sticker on the driver's door warning about an alarm?
I don't know if we have the same manual, I read the whole chapter 4-9 and I didn't see anything about that!!!

Below is the text from pages 4-9 to 4-10 of the pdf version of the Rondo manual (obtained from Kia Canada) which discusses the topic in question. Hope this helps.
This system is designed to provide protection from unauthorized entry into the car. This system is operated in three stages: the first is the "Armed" stage, the second is the "Theft-alarm" stage, and the third is the "Disarmed" stage. If triggered, the system provides an audible alarm with blinking of the hazard warning lights.
Armed stage
Park the car and stop the engine. Arm the system as described below.
1. Remove the ignition key from the ignition switch and exit the vehicle.
2. Make sure that all doors (and tailgate) and engine hood are closed and latched.
3. Lock the doors using the transmitter of the keyless entry system.
After completion of the steps above, the hazard warning lights will blink once to indicate that the system is armed.
If any door (or tailgate) or engine hood remains open, the hazard warning lights will not blink and the theft-alarm will not arm. If all doors (and tailgate) and engine hood are closed after the lock button is pressed, the hazard warning lights blink once.
The system can also be armed by locking the doors with the key from the front doors; however, the hazard warning
lights will not blink using this method. Do not arm the system until all passengers have left the vehicle. If the
system is armed while a passenger(s) remains in the vehicle, the alarm may be activated when the remaining passenger(s) leave the vehicle. If any door (or tailgate) or engine hood is opened within 30 seconds after the system enters the armed stage, the system is disarmed to revent an unnecessary alarm.
Theft-alarm stage
The alarm will be activated if any of the following occurs while the system is armed.
• A front or rear door is opened without
using the ignition key or transmitter.
• The tailgate is opened without using
the transmitter.
• The engine hood is opened.
The siren will sound and the hazard warning lights will blink continuously for approximately 30 seconds, and repeat the alarm 3 times unless the system is disarmed. To turn off the system, unlock the doors with the ignition key or transmitter.
Disarmed stage
The system will be disarmed when the doors are unlocked by depressing the unlock button on the transmitter or unlocked with the ignition key. After depressing unlock button, the hazard warning lights will blink twice to indicate that the system is disarmed. After depressing unlock button, if any door is not opened within 30 seconds, the system will be rearmed.

when I quoted that page number I was taking it from the manual that I downloaded from Kia Canada, however, I went out to my car and checked the original printed manual and its in there. Its in chapter four in Features of your vehicle just after talking about replacing the battery in your transmitter which is on page 4-8 (chapter 4, page 8)
