Default window tint?

Just bought a 08 rondo, red v6 ex. Just wanting to know why some of the rondos have tinted windows and others don't? Not sure if the dealership does it. My wifes parents neighbourgh bought a black v6 ex and she claims that the windows were tinted from the factory. I'm looking at getting mine tinted, for privacy, looks and to keep it cooler in the summer. Just got back from a trip to the inlaws 1100 km one way and averaged 31 mpg imperial on the way down and 30 mpg on the way back, drove through alot of rain. Drove 105 km to 115 km. Got 33 mpg one tank. We now have 4100 km on it.

tinted windows are dealer installed (out sourced) and not available from the factory. Could you add your engine size and seating to your profile and also maybe add your city or area to "Ontario" as that's an awful big area - thanks.

Welcome. I just picked up my Rondo a week and a half ago and am getting it tinted tomorrow. If you're interested, I've done a bunch research and decided to go with Formula One Pinnacle tints. It's ceramic based so it won't fade or interfere with GPS units. Probably one of the pricier tints, but I definitely want to avoid those that fade to purple (some dye based ones) or ones that bubble up.

I see you're in Ontario. The law is that police need to see the driver so most places recommend no lower than 35% in the front. You can have whatever you like in the back and rear. I'm probably going with 35% in the front and 20% in the back and rear. The reason I'm tinting is for privacy as well as minimizing heat on the kids back there. They've already complained about the sun in the Rondo.

I've been considering a tint to cut down on the heat exposure to our dogs riding in the back. I appreciated your research and came across this blog Stargazer's Garage: 2006 Honda Odyssey - 9390 km - Formula One Pinnacle Series Ceramic Tint installed

Coincidentally, he had it installed about 1 km from where I live, so I called for an estimate. They quoted $299 for the Pinnacle Series on all the rear windows. BC prohibits any tint at all up front.

Let us know how your installation goes.

I finally bit the bullet and have scheduled to have our Rondo tinted next Friday. I'll let y'all know how I like it.

Referring to an earlier thread on buying experiences, where Bay City Kia charges $500 for window tinting, it turns out that the outfit I'm using does the tinting for them. The price for Joe public is $219 on the Classic Series that Bay City specifies. I imagine Bay City gets a better price than that, so it's a nice little profit for them.

my dealer tinted my windows for free with my purchase.

Unfortunately I have one untinted window now as my Rondo got broken into a few months ago

Tinting was one of the first things we had done to ours. Both for privacy in the rear and keeping the interior temperature a bit lower from the Florida sun.

My tint job turned out great. Formula One Pinnacle 15% in the back and rear / 35% in the fronts. I'll post pics when I can.

I did notice that the installer didn't line up the tint to the top of the windows. There is about an eigth of inch gap. It's not noticeable when the windows are rolled all the way up. Is this normal?

Yes, it's normal to have an 1/8 inch gap at the top. Also, if you had the hatch tinted you might notice some small bubbles around the part of the tint that touches the dark outline around the window. I have it and so do others that have talked about window tint. The overlaying new tint doesn't adhere 100% to the already dark tint. It's hardly noticeable.

thanks,

Yes I did notice the white frame due to the "dot matrix pattern" around the back windows. Doesn't bother me. The benefits of security, keeping the sun and heat of the kids, protection of the leather from UV rays, and shatter proofing the windows in case of an accident far out weighs these minor imperfections.
