You believe wrong!

Diesel theft is very commonplace now, especially from truck & bus companies. Petrol theft isn't as prevalent, yet!

Vanner,

Thanks for the info. We do have an Advance Auto in the area but after trying Auto Zone (which is one of the largest) and the dealer itself, I figured AA wouldn't have one. Anyway, a cap is on the way.

I live in one of Boston's suburbs, and i just can't imagine anything like this happening here. To me, it sounds like media-inspired panic. Why not steal the wheels? I believe they are worth much more, and not too difficult to remove

...and that's why most of us with expensive wheels have locks on them. Cheap insurance. Another deterrent in the fight on crime.

I take it that in your suburb you don't bother to lock you house or car doors when you leave? I would think if you check you local Police records you'll see that theft of all kind is going on all around you. I didn't see anywhere around the Boston area mentioned in the "25 safest places to live" list.

Just to add a bit on this subject in case anyone's still reading it. A warning email just went around for a large city in Florida, about license plates being stolen and the plate is used at gas stations when the cars are being filled up and they drive away without paying. The service station gets the license number, but guess what ....it's your plate!

I know almost all stations in my area are "Pay First Before Pumping" so it won't work around here.

Default Moved on from 'nicking' fuel!

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to let you all know what our friendly 'Do what you likies', 'Non fee paying caravan club members' or what ever you call them in your part of the world, are up to to suplement their benefit fraud activities!

They've moved on from nicking fuel, its scrap metal now. Catalytic convertors are worth much more now that scrap metal prices have shot up. Yup, they're nicking peoples 'cats', just get under the vehicle and cut them off apparently.

Worst part is, there are 4 main models made by various car manufacturers that have a high scrap value and guess what, the Kia Sorento is one of them. The cat from this beastie is allegedly worth £80 (160 USD) in scrap.....all down to the precious metal used to make the inners of them.

Standard cats are fetching about £20-30, don't know about locking up my daughters at night, I might just get the car in the garage soon!!

As I said in my post in this thread, I was almost a victim of this nonsense. It is rampant in this area. It is mostly by drug addicts for meth.
