I'm new to the forum, though I've been lurking here and at Edmunds for a while. I currently own a 2002 Mazda Protege LX and we are considering trading the Mazda in on a Kia Rondo. The local dealer has three 2008s in stock and one 2007. I've been looking at the 2007 for a while ... checking the mileage when the dealership is closed to see if anyone has been test driving it. It's been sitting for a couple of months now without even a test drive. I called the dealer today to see what kind of rebates they are offering. He said it depended on the car, but that the 2008s had $500 rebates and the 2007s had $2500-$3000 rebates. When discussing the 2007 he has on the lot, he said it had a $3000 rebate and he would "make me a deal on that one". With all the research I've done, I admit that I want to get a fantastic deal and yet not have to haggle ... I HATE the car buying process. Here's a list of what's on the car. Any feedback on what a good deal is would be greatly appreciated!!!
You can get all of the current incentives at Kia, New Car Incentives - Kia Motors America, or Edmunds. Before the 2008s came out, I paid $19,400 out the door (includes 3% tax, tags and title) for V6 EX with leather and premium package; you should be able to do better than that now with 08s sitting on the lot. My bank has a buying service, gave me a price of $100 over invoice, I approached the dealer with that price and they honored it. You could do the same through buying services at Sam's, Costco, etc.
I just purchased a new 2007 Rondo EX V6. I shopped around and think I got a tremendous deal at $14,388 + $300 doc fee + tax. The MSRP was $21,135 (options: bumper step protector, crossbars, and cargo tray), so I saved $6747 off MSRP. Since only $3500 was rebates, the dealer provided the remaining discount of $3247. I know that MSRP is roughly $1100 over invoice for this trim level. However, even if they sold at invoice, I still realized an additional ~$2100 in savings somehow. I have no idea how they did it, but they did.
I thought I'd update the thread. I test drove the '07 EX V6 I've been looking at today. It drove like a dream, and the salesman said he could go to $18,184. I think that's a good deal for what's on the car, though I'd be happier if they would come down another thousand. We're thinking it over but I don't know what the decision is going to be just yet.
One of my biggest concerns is space. While test driving, I loved how much higher off the ground I was sitting vs. my Protege. But in looking at the size of the interior of the car, I actually think my Protege is wider and bigger inside. I have a huge trunk and really the cargo space in the Rondo is no more than what I have now.
Also, the dealer has a 2008 Sedona on the lot with 3K miles on it for $18k. For the same money as the Rondo, I could get a lot more vehicle...though the gas mileage would suck. I would need to do more research on the reliability of the Sedona before going that direction.
The $18,184 includes the $3000 rebate. If the final price had been 15K, I'd be dragging hubby to the dealer Monday morning to sign on the dotted line! LOL
You can get that for 15000. Walk in and offer it. I got the exact same model for that price three months ago. Believe me they want the 07 off the lot!!! You are not getting a great deal at 18000 - what do you have to lose? Even if they meet you in the middle you still saved 1500. Tell them you want to be out the door at 15000 and you will buy it immediately - bet you own a Rondo if you do!!
Yes, you can get it post rebate for 15K. I had a $2,500 rebate on mine V6 EX with 3rd row seat and got it or $15.9K, it wound up being 17.2K out the door with all the tax, title, license, etc. If I had not insisted on the 3rd row, I could have hammered a better deal. My car was the only one on the lot (out of 26!) with it.
It is a leftover '07 model, they will deal to get rid of it.
Regarding the room, the high seating and roofline on the Rondo makes it feel airy and roomier than it really is. The cloth seats are firm and comfy too, but they stain so easily it is ridiculous. That is my only complaint with the car to date.
