I just brought a Kia Rondo 2008 EX V6 luxury 7 seat from a Kia dealer in Port coquitlam BC. Before I buy the car, I didn't know the MSRP is $26,095.00 and the Delivery Fee is $1,650.00. The dealer charged me $29,750 for the car before tax and fees. When I came home and checked the Kia.ca, I found out the price before tax should be $26,095.00 + $1,650.00=$27,750.
I called up the dealer, the sales said the extra $2000 is import fee that costed them to get the car from Korea. I am a first time car buyer who didn't know much about cars. Can anyone tell me whether I was ripped off for that extra $2000? Anybody else had the same experience?

Sorry, you've been taken to the cleaners, that dealer is lying when he says its an import fee, thats just another way of serious padding, never heard of anyone being hit that hard. A lot of dealers have what they call an administration fee which can be a few hundred dollars, but not $2000! There should have been a window sticker on the vehicle before you purchase showing the MSRP. However, a dealer can charge what he wants. You should have done your homework before going to the dealer as all manufacturers list their MSRP on their websites.
I would be talking to the dealer principal at Bay City Kia on this, the import fee is already included in the dealer cost, as KIA Canada (which is the importer) charges the dealer. In checking their website they just list the MSRP of $26,095 and $1,650, so they are contradicting themselves, maybe its just that salesman trying to fleece you.
Its things like this that give everyone a bad name. I would also contact KIA Canada and give them your views.
Are you sure that wasn't accessories on the car, like tinted windows, etc that are not part of the base vehicle? or maybe financing charges, mind you they are offering 0% financing at the moment?
My dealer lists all his vehicles at the MSRP with no administration fees. All the vehicles are clearly marked with Kia Canada's window sticker.

I bought from the same dealer. I was treated well after walking away a few months earlier from one salesman who's... let's say undesirable. Do you know his name? I complained about him to the dealer principal. This guy used to be a Chrysler salesman and has the attitude to match. The dealer principal is aware of his methods but, it appears, he can sell.

Did you encounter serious padding on your purchase from this dealership like vankia08? Almost sounds like a typo and the guys trying to cover his mistake to avoid giving back the money.

Thanks for all the response!
On the contract, I did pay $1450 for all the admin fees, document fees......but that's not included in the $29,750. And to my best knowledge I didn't ask for any extra accessories or warrenty nor did they offer me any. I just got the Rondo EX-V6 Luxury, nothing more. So what I paid for the car is $29,750+$3570(GST & PST)+$1450(Admin and all the other fees)+$50.50(contract registration fee)+$878(cost of borrowing)=$35698.5
So if their own website listed the pirce is $26,095 + $1,650, and they charged me $29,750. That's unfair.
In my last call to the sales, he said he will explain the detail to me on the coming Tuesday. I will listen to him and see what's next.
Thanks for all the advices. More advices are welcomed.
I now learnt that I should really do my homework before I buy any cars....
oh, there is another thing I need to ask your opinion. When I got the car from the sales, there were 190 kms on the odometer. Is it normal for a brand new car to have 190 kms?
Last question first... my car, delivered in April, had 55 km on it.
Admin and document fees were originally quoted as $500. I bitched and asked if their rate was $1000 an hour and they reduced it to $300. I still wasn't happy but figured I'd won a small victory.
Before I went in, I had a carcost.ca ($40 cost) list of what they paid, so I was prepared for any BS.
There are lots of deals on right now, so I find it surprising that they hit you with extra, fictional charges. If you'd like to discuss this further, contact me and we'll talk.
Good Luck

Thank you very much for the reply. I start to realize what a huge rip off I got from that all seems smilling and friendly dealer... It appears that the dealer charged me Freight and FDI twice, also, it charged me $1450 on "admin and other fees". I am feeling kind of depressed...I'd like to and need to discuss this further, how to contact you?

Mine had 25kms on it, of which I put 25kms on it during the test drive. A few test drives does not take long to put a few kms on the car. The dealer is suppose to drive it a few kms as well for PDI.
