Hello Rondo owners. I like to hear from people about their buying experience when they purchased their Rondo. Please tell me the following things:
1) How much did you get off the MSRP?
2) What, if any, accessories did you get included in the price?
Please post model when you reply.
I am most interested in hearing from Canadian buyers so I can compare apples and apples. International and U.S. buyers feel free to post!
I am considering holding off because I think some rebates maybe coming for Canadian buyers with the Canadian dollar doing so well lately. Currently there is about a $3,000 difference between the U.S. and Canada. This is hardly fair when the Canadian dollar is slightly above the U.S. dollar. I think every manufacturer is going to have to bring Canadian prices more in line with the U.S. I know a guy that went down to the States to buy a Cadillac Escalade and saved $17,000!!!!!!!!!!!
I never read anything about reduced car prices in Canada it is just speculation on my part. It would be sickening to just buy a car only to hear about a $2,000 - $3,000 price drop or rebate just months after.
What do you guys think? There is a class action suit against some manufacturers for this very reason and BMW has already reduced their Canadian prices by $5,000.
Example 2008 Rondo EX-V6 7 passenger
Canadian price $23,895
U.S. price $21,295
Difference $2,600
I am not happy either that beige colour, infinity stereo and tire pressure monitoring system is offered in the U.S. and not in Canada.
actually the difference is $3,200 as the US price puts in the $600 destination charge, but they are not equipped the same. In order to get the heated seats that are standard on all our EX models you have to buy the leather package at $1000, also at the moment you are comparing a 2008 CDN model to a 2007 US model, hard to say at this point whether it will be as small a change in price as our. Wonder how these vehicles are purchased from Korea (what kind of money)?
Narvo have you considered contacting KIA Canada with this information and see what sort of reaction you get?
You think this is bad, wonder how a Canadian Honda customer feels as the difference on the base CR-V is over $7,000 and that vehicle is built in Ohio!
There was an extensive coverage on Driving Television a while ago on importing a vehicle from the US (this was when the dollar was around 90 cents) and they said that unless there was at least $5000 difference it was worth the trouble. You had to figure a minimum of $1000 in various fees to handle the transaction and have quite a bit of time available. I think if you go to their site you can play back the programs. Now the dollar is at par or better this may all change.
The price I quoted was before destination. I can see heated seats not being a big thing in the U.S. because in most states I don't think they would need them or use them much.
I wasn't sure if I should revive this old thread, but this seemed to be the perfect place to post this. I found this detailed account on someone's blog of her Rondo buying experience:
Hi,
I'm seriously considering buying a Rondo in the next couple of weeks here in the Ottawa region.
I guess there are 3 dealers in the area, and so far I've only been to the one on Bank St.
The Rondo seems like a great car, and after test driving it ad some of the others I was interested in (Matrix, Vibe, Compass, Caliber) the Rondo definitely came out on top in terms of practicality and comfort.
So, of course I'm looking to get the best price possible but also wondering whether you have any suggestions on which dealership to go to (or which you've had good experiences with).
the dealers are:
Bank Street
Promenade
Donnelly Kia
BTW, I'm looking at the 5 seater EX 4 cylinder model.
It's hard to say exactly how much of a discount that I got off MSRP, the dealer offered quite a bit more on my trade in than I had expected. I also got a $2500 US rebate that Kia offered in January. Now they're offering a $1500 US rebate if you currently own one a specified list of competitive cars (my previous Ford Focus would have qualified).
I'm not sure if tax differences are a factor. Is the GST included in the MSRP in Canada? The sales tax isn't in the U.S. The Rondo isn't subject to NAFTA so there is probably some sort of import duty in both the U.S. and Canada. Some of the difference in price is probably due to less economy of scale in the smaller Canadian market. The U.S. market for a lot of things seems to be more competitive than the Canadian one.
Some differences in features offered may restrict cross-border sales. I assume that a U.S. purchased Rondo would need to be modified to be legal in Canada since daytime running lights aren't offered here. The TPMS being standard in the U.S. is probably at least partially the result of the problem several years ago with underinflated Firestone tires on Ford Explorers. Those accidents were mostly in the southern U.S. and were probably heat related, not as much an issue in Canada.
I've owned a couple of Ford cars that were sold in the U.S. but assembled in Canada. The price was the same as the identical models assembled in the U.S. The Canadian assembly plant is closer to Rochester NY than the U.S. ones.
I checked into importing my Rondo from the US, but the bottom line its not worth it, not enough difference to justify the trouble - now if your buying a Corvette that's a different story!
GaryW - no taxes are included in the MSRP
str8ace - on your profile location, you put Ontario - what part, that's a very large area!
Buyers: just got a flyer on the KIA's and they are currently offering $1750 cash rebate or low financing
