I choose to use them over the carpeted mats. Although it is probably all in my head, I feel like it gives just a bit more sound deadening. I also like the extra "height" it gives as it feels more cushioned. Sometimes the driver's mat moves but for the most part it works well for me.

Default Michelin mat for the rear

I got this michelin all weather mat for the rear...it has an accordian thing in the center so it flexes to fit the car...so far I'm happy with it. Its fits well, and doesn't move around...Canadian Tire and some Walmarts carry it. CT has it for $25...walmart in US had it for a bit under $20
