Default Just bought a Rondo EX V6 3rd row of seats

Just bought the Rondo for my wife. We didn't even know it exsisted and went to look at the Sportage. We had an old style Sportage and I liked the new style. Also looked an Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV-4 and Saturn VUE. Wife has MS and certain needs as in ease of entry/exit. None of the SUV's were low enough. Saw the Rondo and she immediately liked it. Couldn't believe all the features (tire monitoring, CD with built-in 6 CD changer, traction control, anti-lock, 17 inch spoke wheels, V6, 3rd row seating elect moonroof, etc.) all for 22K on the road. Traded an 06 Suzuki Forenza that blue book had 7K tops...yes 50% depreciation in a little over a year. After negotiation I received 8K for the Suzuki, $750 rebate and 4.9% for 4 years.

Looking it over when I got home it has really good fit and finish. Got the cloth seats as leather for a car that sits outside gets extremely hot in Florida(my cars are in the garage). Will definitely have all the glass tinted first thing. Ride home was smooth and the V6 is responsive. Loads of room inside and a tremendous amount of space and holding areas throughout the whole car. One thing I miss is the short beep of the horn while locking/unlocking the doors. I know the lights flash but in the bright sunlight, you can't always see them.

Lastly insurance. Hartford (AARP) doesn't have a listing for the Hondo so the operator just tried to match it up with something else. She said it was only $15. more a year over the Suzuki so I'm pleased. Looks like you can add a photo to this posting so here it is.

I'm with Kia HQ in Korea. Glad to hear you purchased a new Rondo and are thrilled with it. Thanks for sharing a picture too. We believe it will be a big hit in America and Canada as we roll out the advertising and dealers are more accustomed to selling its features. The Rondo makes a lot of sense for many and our pricing will be very attracted with all the added value in the product's design and features. I wish you much happiness in driving your new Rondo. Enjoy!

Schnauzer,

Thanks for your reply. One thing I have to ask and it looks like you might be in a position for the answer; what's with the name RONDO Does it mean something in Korean?

Good question Crewzin, thanks. Rondo is a musical term with roots in many languages including French just like the word Sonata as in Hyundai's name for their car. Classical music primarily for both. We thought it was uniquely named and easy to remember but primarily it came from music and widely we Korean love classical music and performances. I refer you to do a Google to understand both better as I am not a musican.

Thanks.

Don't know why I didn't Google it before. Seems there are many uses for the term:

1)Rondo, and its French equivalent rondeau, is a word that has been used in music in a number of ways, most often in reference to a musical form, but also in reference to a character-type that is distinct from the form.

2)The name ‘Rondo’ comes from the musical expression for a theme that is repeated in a piece of music.

3)Rondo Form repeats musical sections, with contrasting sections in between. It's like a triple decker sandwich, with bread on the top, middle and bottom, and lots of yummy stuff in between.

4)A musical form in which the first or main section recurs, normally in the home key between subsidiary sections (couplets, episodes) and to conclude the composition.

I especially liked the comparsion to a triple decker sandwich #3. Rondo is a very common word found in Korea and China but mostly music related. The key design group chief says it reflect the music of the heart of one's self of "things to come".

Schnauzer,

Question. How come KIA decided to give the 5 seat Rondo the option to cover the rear luggage area with a security cover and NOT give the 7 seat Rondo the same option? There's indentations in the inside quarter-panels to hook up the security cover, but not in the 7 seat Rondo. Doesn't anyone at KIA think that the rear area of the 7 seat Rondo needs covering? With the 3rd row of seats folded down, the rear area is exactly the same in both vehicles, so why not give the 7 seat Rondo the chance to cover that area when the seat is down?

Answer: How come? I have no idea. Designers made the decision with Engineering. Can't answer every question why something is or is not done as there are several groups involved in the thought process. Now, since you brought the point up, I have sent a "firm" suggestion to those planning model trim revisions. Thank you.

OK. Thanks. Reading over my post it sounds like I'm a bit frustrated with this, and I am, trying to think of ways I could use the security cover in mine but without the pre-made holes and slots I'm totally out of luck. Maybe the next edition (2008) will have it all sorted out. Thanks again.

Yes, please include a security cover for the 7-seat Rondo in the future.

Schnauzer, do you think it is possible to release a retrofit kit or conversion kit so a security cover can be used in the current 7-seat Rondo?

I'm thinking that you don't have to "reinvent the wheel" and there must be a way of using the security cover for the 5-seat Rondo in the 7-seat Rondo. Perhaps the security cover can somehow be suspended from the posts of the second-row headrests.

I admit, however, that I have never seen the security cover for the 5-seat Rondo, so I have no idea if it's even remotely possible to rig it inside the 7-seat Rondo. It sounds like you have already pondered over how this might be done, Crewzin, but have run out of ideas.
