LATEST NEWS - KOREA TIMES
Kia's new MPV appears

Fri, 31 Mar 2006
Kia has revealed the first glimpse of its all-new Carens compact MPV, which will make its world premiere at the forthcoming Salon International del Automovil de Madrid in May.

To be named 'Rondo' in North America, the new Kia is longer, wider and taller than the model it replaces — and will be available with seven seats for the first time in Europe. The rear seats fold down flat into the boot floor when not required.

Due to get its formal unveiling at the Spanish motor show on May 25, the Carens is the fifth new Kia model — following the Picanto, Rio, Sportage and Carnival — to make its debut at a European show.

Kia's Multi-S concept car was a tuned new Kia Carens, I believe (just like Rio and "Sport concept car"). Of course I don't think thst new Carens will be with 19" whells, but the platform and style would be very similar to Multi-S.
Here I found some pictures, but I believe you've already seen them before.

Here's another Kia released photo of the new Carens. Kia wrote:

Kia Motors has issued the first official photographs of its all-new carens compact MPV.

The 4.54-metre long model, which will offer customers in Europe a choice of diesel and gasoline engines and can seat up to seven people in its spacious, versatile interior, will make its world premiere at the forthcoming Salon International del Automovil de Madrid on 25 May.

Schnauzer;
Since you work for KIA, have you read all the horror stories in this forum about reliability and poor dealer service problems posted by others in this forum? Do you have any answer on why this is happening and what's being done about it? I am a potential KIA carens buyer but not so sure anymore after reading these problem reports and more alarmingly, lack of good dealer service. I can probably deal with the poor resale value but not poor reliability. Convince me why I should buy a KIA.

I am an executive officer at Kia HQ in Korea and have many reporting to me about good and bad things. First place there are only 87 active posters on this Kia forum. Few horror stories but still valuable to know about. That is a small sampling with most enjoying their Kias and few vocalizing bad dealer service. Complaints are always are louder than compliments in this sort of public forum. We have thousands of dealers world wide. Only a small number give us heartburn and those that continue don't last. Either they give up trying to sell and service cars or we force their termination. For you to think that it is a widespread problem for Kia, you haven't looked at other forums for our competition. People complain about BMW, VW, Honda, Toyota, you name it brand and their dealers.

I am not here to convince you to do anything you don't want to do. I am not here to be a punching bag for a few bad eggs. My staff is here to monitor trends for me. We do background verification on some cases and not surprisingly when we do that the poster stops posting as we have uncovered a fake or someone who is telling half truths about their situation. Some incidents have been resolved at the regional level with the dealer in question being the hero with the customer. That is the way we like to see things done -- the dealer first takes care of his/her customer when doing so falls within guidelines. With things don't, the dealer moves it up to regional or the customer calls customer service and it gets attention.

All in all I am pleased with what Kia and Hyundai are doing to win the minds and hearts of the buying public. We cannot please everyone. Buy what fits your purse and your desires is always best. Our product gets high marks from Consumer Reports this month -- 15th place and ahead of VW, BMW, MB and many others. Hyundai ranked I think 7th or 8th. Haven't seen the report yet myself. JD Powers constantly give us high marks and our sales are 18% ahead of last year in the U.S. alone.

To Schnauzer. I hope you can do something about the official distributor of KIA here in the Philippines. Our local distributor always have a bad reputation of bringing the Kia models late. And not only that. They bring in the least of the least variant as in nothing at all where local customer expect the EX model or SE. We receive the LX model with out all of the stuff even the rear wipers and without accessories. Only a few . LX models in other countries are even better. Now that the Carens is about to be released here in March or April. !st the local dealers are telling us that there will be a CRDi model out but now they say that they will release the petrol variant only. And as we all expect they will release the least of the least. The local distributor here in the Philippines before also handle Hyundai,Mazda and BMW. Now they only distribute Kia. Now Hyundai, Mazda and BMW are handled better by another distributor. It's giving Kia here a bad name. I hope that you can do any thing about this and report this to kia korea.

Thank you kia333 for your comments which will be discussed in a meeting. I don't know specifically why your country gets the lower end trimmed models. Sometimes it happens due to lack of factory capacity for various markets. We are adding new factories to resolve these bottlenecks. Again, this may not be the reason for your perceived country's distribution situation.

Thanks for the reply. I sure hope you can discuss that in your meeting and dump our local distributor here and find a new one. We Kia owners here what to improve our ride but we have limited accessories/parts due to our distributor.
