Default Gasoline additive?

My 14 Rondo calls for a fuel injector cleaner/additive with every oil change. Well I just changed the oil in it for the first time (I'm using 5w-20 100% synthetic) but I don't know what this additive is. I read somewhere here that Kia says Techron is the only stuff to use. I can't find Techron anywhere around here.

Other than going to the Kia dealer for it does anyone know where Techron is sold in Southern Ontario? I mean I could go to the dealer but I'm sure they will want at least twice what any other place will charge for it but if I cant find it anywhere else I guess I'll have no choice

Same stuff is used in my Hyundai. Only unconfirmed report I could find back last summer was some stuff GM has.

The Hyundai stuff is Techron so you can try those dealers too, but I gave up trying to find some here last summer.

read a little closer it only calls for it if you are not using Top Tier gasoline and its recommended, its not compulsory.

Ya I did see that. However a little research on the Internet reveals that direct Injection engines can develop intake valve and sometimes Injector "coking" due to the combustion temperatures that the injectors are exposed to . So I figured better safe than sorry and it can't likely hurt right?

Don't know if it's available here or not, but it's worth a try. HOGG Fuel & Supply/Transit Petroleum in Kitchener carries Chevron lubricants. Read a post from a few years back about a Corvette owner getting some there.

I have looked for Techron here in Ontario and its not available. Nearest Chevron as far as I can tell is approx 2000kms. Costco here does not sell it (but would love to see it here and appreciate a heads up if they carry it somewhere).

its your choice, have you priced it at the dealership, rather just assuming its twice as much as anywhere else. Sounds like you could spent more money running around trying to find it elsewhere than just simply getting it from the dealer where you know for sure its available and you are getting the right product - it does state in your manual "do not mix other additives"

Exactly. In all my many many years of owning and driving vehicles, including Kia's, I have never used any additives. And never will. We're lucky that our gasolines are clean and formulated for modern engines. Not so in some parts of the world.
