I have a 2004 Sorento EX and for some reason the heat just stoped working. Air is coming out but its just cold. Has anyone had of heard of this problem? I have an appointment but its not for two weeks and this is the wifes truck! She is not happy at all right now.

Thanks in advance!

First, is the air being pulled in as cold as the outside air or is it a bit warmer (but not warm enough)?

If it's cold, you could be looking at a plugged heater core. Another posibility is this.

Let us know what you find out.

If the thermostat is stuck shut, then yes. Possibly also cause the engine to run hot or overheat. OP should watch the temp gauge (is there one?) to see if it runs higher than usual.
Its the other way around, if the thermostat is stuck open then there well be no heat. If its stuck shut then the car well over heat, But well still have heat inside. Thats why they say if your car is over heating put the heat on the windows deforst. It well help keep the tempeture down for a little bit longer to you get it to where ever you go.

there would be heat but it would take a very long time to heat up. I had my thermostat pulled on my carmaro because it was overheating and i was 8 hours away from home. Once I started it up after being cool it took me a half a hour to get it blowing warm air. with a 4cyl i think it would still take atlest 20 minutes

Loss of heater output

I don't know if this relates to other KIA models but this is what caused loss of heater output on my 92,000 mile 2002 Sportage:

The position of the air temperature valve in the air conditioning housing under the dash (which determines how much of the total airflow is permitted to pass through the heater) was stuck. The valve position determines the warmth of the overall air flow that is sent into the passenger compartment. This door-like valve redirects air flow. In some positions such as defrost the AC comes on to dehumidfy the air to aid in clearing the windows during high humidity. The loss of heater output was accompanied by an unusually loud heater fan with low airflow. Daily driving round trip on a mile of dusty dirt road to and from our house produced a lot of dust in the unit. The dust, when mixed with AC condensate made quite a mess.

In my case, disassembly and a thorough cleaning of all moving parts solved the problem.

stop driving your car immediately.
my wifes 2003 serento did the same thing she was low on antifreeze.
after filling (1 gallon low) i looked for a leak and found it on the bottom of the plastic radiator bottle (under pressure) replaced it myself at a cost of 120.00 from kia. this appears to be common over 60,000 but kia will not acknowledge this problem and if your engine over heats and has damage kia will not warrenty the motor
please let me know if this was the problem

I've had this same problem in the older vehicles that I've owned. The first symptom that somthing was wrong was when the heater wasn't blowing warm air. I also noticed that the temperature guage wasn't showing the vehicle's normal operating range.

No My thermostat in my prelude went yesterday. I warmed it up got in no heat and car was starting to overheat. It is stuck shut to produce overheat AND no heat...

thats wired because when its stuck shut the heater core heats up thats why you should still have heat. But if it stuck open then it well have no heat. To me it sounds like someone put in one of those fail safe ones. Because when they get stuck shut the pressure builds up but when its stuck open there is no pressure. I got this from Comments on How to Tell if Your Car's Thermostat Is Stuck Closed - eHow.com

If you're driving down the freeway and your car is about to overheat because you have a stuck thermostat, turn off the air conditioner, and put the heat on full blast. Engine coolant will run through the heater core and be cooled by the heater blower. This should get your coolant temperature down a little bit to keep you going. Yes, it will be very hot, but open the windows and think of how you'll no longer be stuck on the highway.
Determine if thermostat is stuck open - If the temperature gauge rises only slightly, the thermostat is stuck open. The engine will never properly warm up. In a cold climate, the cabin will never get warm and mileage will drop drastically.

2005 sedona lx no heat

I also have no heat in front. Just stopped working a few months ago. I do check in summer periodically to see if heat works. I also use heat with A/C so it doesnt get to cold inside. I have followed the thread here. I want to add that the heater box behind the dash does get very hot. my temp gauge is where it always is about a fraction above halfway point in gauge. I have antifreeze level checked. I tried to check the inlets to the firewall( metal hoses). I don't fell they are hot. car doesnt overheat nor does gauge settle low. rear heat works fine. I have not check control dials /switch yet. I can see metal lever sticking out of heater box. looks like it should go up or down. It doesnt move when I turn temp dial. Also can I manually move this lever? its pretty hard to move. Any thing else I can check?:)

I have a 2003 Kia Rio , it is not producing heat for the cab. The fan motor is fine.If I am willing to sit for ten fifteen minutes with the car in high idle it will build up to a third of normal heat but as soon as I start moving the heat level drops. While I am in "high idle" I am now hearing this ticking noise coming from ahead of the passenger firewall. I just had a rad flush and fill up with new anti freeze. What is next the thermostat ?
