Hello forum members.

I am an active user on this site (Rio section) and I'm on optimaforums.com

A lot of members over there complained that dealerships used 5W-20 in their turbocharged engines. That is obviously the WRONG oil weight. Dealers seemed oblivious and all together apathetic towards this. So we decided to do something about it. 2 years ago we compiled all of the problem dealers info and i went to KIA. Skip from 2013 to a few months ago: I had emailed Korea directly and then was referred to the US Director of Consumer Affairs & Warranty. I had been in contact with her and engineering staff supposedly contacted the dealers involved and also issues a TSB to correct this. So please: If you have a turbocharged vehicle, make sure they use the right oil type (synthetic) and viscosity. Print the TSB out and bring it with you if they are being ignorant of this.

Thanks

Dang congrats. Do you do 3000 mile changes? I would still rather run synthetic seeing as how most turbos now come with it from factory. On your 2002 it probably didn't. Manufacturers these days set OCI's at 10K (not yet the case with KIA though) and you will never get that out of conventional. In any case: make sure the right viscosity is used.
