Reflash of ECU Rom TSB (3.8L Only)

TSB No. KT2009110303
Shift Delay and Shift Quality Enhancements (Trans - 027)

DOWNLOAD (http://www.smuook.net/files/borrego/TSB_TRANS_027.pdf)
=====

At mid-speeds, I would occasionally hit the gas and the vehicle wouldn't respond well. It felt like a flat spot in the throttle. This has happened every once and awhile since I bought my Borrego. The best I can tell, this was the problem I was experiencing, per the TSB:

SYMPTOM: Shift delay or loss of power from 40 to 45 MPH range.
REMEDY: Shorten shift timing during 5-4 kick-down during medium/low speed zone

When I took it in, the service lady wasn't too inclined to help. She told me that there wasn't an active recall on my vehicle, to which I replied that I never said that there was. Then she told me that they would have to reproduce the problem. OK, whatever. They seemed to want to push me away, at which point I began to get very irritated... seeing as I just bought this vehicle about a year ago from this very dealership. How soon they forget. Anyway, I think she realized that I wasn't going away. I managed to get them too reflash it.

Here's what I can report... I haven't been able to reproduce the sluggish throttle yet (which is good). I've only driven it one day, but everything seems good. The throttle is very responsive in all conditions so far. I need more time to evaluate the reflash, but I think it went well. The overall driving characteristics are pretty much the same. It definitely doesn't make anything worse.

If anyone else gets this done, pls report here what your findings are. I will post in a week or so what I think.

Hi Friends,

I own a new mohave SUV, bought just couple of weeks ago. Today while i was driving with 100km/h the car made a strange sound in back differential, and then it started to shake and make an incredible sound, which didn't let me go more than 40km/h. I showed it to a mechanic close to the road, and he said that some parts in back differential is broken. Can any body help me with this. I need to know what has really happened and why. Could it be because of lack of lubricant in the differential?

Gas Mileage on V8 Borrego

Can anyone explain this? I took a trip to the grand canyon from missouri including utah and colorado and got great gas mileage of 21.9 mpg overall average per the digital readout. Now that I am back in the midwest even on long trips I can barely get over 20 mpg. Can it be the change in elevation? Once I got to arizona I never went much below 4,000 ft until getting back to missouri, elevation around 1,000 ft.

I've made hundreds of oil changes over the years so I feel kind of stupid asking this: When I changed the oil on my 09 big V8 Borrego for the first time I had a lot of trouble removing the plastic cover over the oil filter. It was really hard to unscrew and screw back. Was I suppose to loosen something else to get it to unscrew easier? Is it the little cap that takes a allen wrench near the cover? I couldn't find a allen wrench that would fit in the tight space around that little screw. I also dropped the pan that covers the from bottom of the vehicle, I assume that is necessary to get to the filter.

Fog lights

Hello to all furum members. I'm a first-time Kia owner, and happy to have opted for a 4X4 Borrego LX. In trying to improve visibility, I bought a pair of fog lights from the Kia dealer, and installed them at the designated spot. I found the "plugs" for these lights: one adjacent to the windshield washer reservoir, and the other taped-up to the wiring bundle on the drivers side. Problem#1: the pre-installed wired plugs do not reach the fog lights, and the Kia dealer do not sell a jumper or 'wiring kit' to connect them. Problem#2: after the parts dept said I will not need anything else otherthan the fog lights, they are now telling me that I must purchase the whole light-control (stock) assembly to operate these lights. And yes: Problem #3: they refuse to take the fog lights back. Any suggestions on how to make the best use of the fog lights (other than as decoration)? I look forward to posting more positive liners in the future.

For those of you who added HIDs - ?

Hello all. On my last car, 2001 VW Passat, I replaced the head light assemblies and added HIDs. However the cost of the HIDs was around $200. I had read some stories about guys buying cheap China made sets on eBay for $70 and the ballast would go out after a few months. Here are the ones I was going to purchase: click here (http://www.hidguy.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13_27_33&products_id=98)

Has anyone had any issues with their lights? Are you worried about the fact that you paid $19.99 + shipping for these. *Please note I am not trying to sound like an a-hole.* Just wondering if this is a really good deal or a too good to be true deal.

Thanks! - Erik

Has anyone had any luck finding OEM (or close to OEM) running boards/side steps for the Kia Borrego Limited? If so, any recommendations as to where to buy?

I came across this website, which is in Korean. Luckily, my wife is from Seoul, so I plan to check it out in more detail but wanted to know if anyone had any domestic tips...

Still wish they would have added a side step to the Limited :)

Started the Borrego this morning and while starting it made a strange sound then the fun began sounded like it was running on 4 of its 8 cylinders and was shaking and bucking all the while the check engine lamp was flashing away like a beacon of distress then all of a sudden it just leveled out and everything was fine again. Looks like a trip to the dealer is in order. Funny thing the day before when I started it, it started just fine but let out a HUGE cloud of smoke!

I had my new Kia Mohave since just one week ago. When I was browsing on internet before make the deal I saw the special cable for the Ipod but it was not available from my local dealer here in Colombia so I bought it from Kia Accessories in USA. I have used a couple times the Ipod and it is nice having the song information on the car stereo but I am concerned for something that is populated on the owners manual. It is about any USB device shall be connected just after turn on the engine and it shall be unplugged before shut off the engine. I have been cafefully with this so far but I am afraid there is a chance I can forget that and plug the ipod before turn on the engine of leave it connected when turn it off. Have any of you passed through this? and if so, what happened on the Ipod?
