About how long (how many miles) does it take before the engine is properly broken in and getting the gas mileage that it will normally get for the life of the car?

Just about to pass 1500 miles on mine (exclaim 5 speed manual) and as of yet i haven't gotten close to 30mpg. i do mostly highway driving. I dont accelerate too hard other then when merging onto the highway. And i typically do around 70-75mph. Most of the time it's smooth driving. I do have to drive on city streets for a bit to get onto the highway. But i was still hoping to reach at least 30mpg.

discovered an interesting aerodynamic effect/defect

For those of you with a sunroof, have you tried driving with the sunroof rolled ALL of the way back? When you hold the button down and let it roll back, where it stops is not as far back as it goes. If you wait till it stops and then hold the button down some more, the roof retracts another 2-3 inches.

When you are driving between 30-40mph there is some really interest aerodynamics going on. It basically feels like the pressure inside the car fluctuates very rapidly. You can feel it in your ears.

Anyone else notice this? If you dont roll the sun roof completely back, it doesn't happen. I wonder if the sunroof stops where it does because of that.

I also get a similar effect if i roll down one of the back windows, although i think that only happens at higher speeds.

Saw a 'recent build' Soul tonight. Chrome around front speakers,speedometer,radio/HVAC knobs & steering wheel controls. Also, some grey trim on auto shift knob/base. AND....SOFT vinyl type padding in place of the plastic on door panel insets + a padded elbow rest on door. Center armrest still plastic. Also has 'different bushings' for a 'better ride'. I didn't drive it,salesman said he didn't notice a difference. Seems more appealing overall. The 'Orange' ones are to be in soon. That's all I know.

intermittent back wipers question

New to the forum - hi to all!
Just got Frenchie, my Exclaim, a few weeks ago and just recently used the back wipers - are mine broken or are they supposed to just stop and pause every third of the way? Also when turning them off (in either intermittent or full on) they NEVER stop at the bottom of either side, always straight up - is that normal?
Other than this little frustration - I LOVE my new KIA - named her Frenchie since she is the Dune color and reminds me of French Vanilla ice cream! Everyone loves her - especailly the color!
Thanks to anyone who has any insight on this!

PS - I live in Oregon where it rains tone and really need these wipers to work properly!

when the Kia salesman was touting the features of the Kia Soul he told me that all models had the heated front seats - I purchased the 2U and now that the weather is getting colder, started looking around for the symbol to press to activate them. Looking in the manual it indicates that (if equipped) the symbol is on top of the gear shift or to the left of it. There is no such symbol in my vehicle. Did my salesman lie to me?:(

I was at the local Kia dealership last Sat just as they put 2 new Souls out on the lot. They were both built in Sept and ONE of them had an insert around the handle area of the door. I guess all those ring scratch complaints are starting to get a response!!! By the way they were both + models.

I have a brand new Soul 2U, Automatic. I want to purchase the center console armrest for it, but the kia.ca site says it is only compatible with a manual Soul. Is this true? I can't see why it wouldn't work with the automatics? Has anyone had experience putting one into an automatic SOUL? The Canadian SOULs (other than the base) come with a not so friendly armrest, would it be because of that? Anyone out there... I need help!

So i am guessing i need the 'special' ipod cable to fix this? When i plug the ipod in with the USB cable that came with the ipod, it says USB on the radio instead of IPOD and it's basically impossible to play the song you want unless you happen to find it at random.

Instead of being able to browse songs by artists or album it just displays the internal naming scheme of the folders and files in the ipod, which are basically random.

Do i have to use the ipod cable then? Should i hate kia for this or should i hate apple for this? I'm guessing apple given the control freaks they are.

Anyhow, if there's some other way to get this working without having to buy the ipod cable please let me know. Otherwise I'll probably just use a USB stick cuz for the price of the cable i can go buy a USB stick instead.

I was reading in my SOUL!'s owners manual not to use the IPOD USB cable that comes with them when connecting to the SOUL USB port. I looked up the cable they say to buy from KIA. It's $36! Really? They want me to pay $36 for their cable??? For now I just use my Cigarette (sp?) charger and audio cable jack-to-jack. Unfortunately I have to pick up the IPOD and navigate to my playlists, songs etc. Not good when you're suppose to be driving and watching the road.

I don't want to damage my unit, but am wondering if this is a KIA scam? Anyone know what the whole story is and if there is someplace I can get this cable for less than 36 friggin dollars?

I was reading in my SOUL!'s owners manual not to use the IPOD USB cable that comes with them when connecting to the SOUL USB port. I looked up the cable they say to buy from KIA. It's $36! Really? They want me to pay $36 for their cable??? For now I just use my Cigarette (sp?) charger and audio cable jack-to-jack. Unfortunately I have to pick up the IPOD and navigate to my playlists, songs etc. Not good when you're suppose to be driving and watching the road.
