One of the first things I knew I wanted to sort on the Kia after picking it up was sort the foglights, they do not come as standard on the Strike special edition model. I asked the Kia dealer for a price to fit the Kia ones and also for supply only for me to fit.

The lamps alone were £258 + VAT and the price for fitting them was £250 + VAT

I really disliked the look of the housing "blanks" in place of the lamps.

So, I did this instead.

This was a fair bit of work as I had to modify the lamps with a dremel and then place them in the housings (the blanks supplied fitted where the lamps go) then fill the void around each lamp with translucent silicone, smooth it out and wait for it to harden. This gave me a lamp unit with a silicone shaped rubber around it that perfectly suits the shape of the housing. Silicone will not adhere to the plastic used for the housings so I then used a fitting each side to fix the whole lot in and prevent it dropping out.

Photos are shown below.

These come on with the main beam (because they are driving lamps, not fog lamps) and the road ahead is very well lit now with these, the main beam and dipped HIDs - literally brilliant

Anyway, one thing I am wondering is would these be better as DRLs?
I can easily pop an H3 multi LED bulb in each lamp and make them come on with the ignition and off with the side lights.

Or would this make me look like yet another numpty driving around in the daytime with his fog lights on?

My first service is set for sept. 15th and I was wondering .. should I buy K&N Replacement Air Filter (product number: 33-2380)? As they say .. this thing is better than the stock one, they have 1 mil. miles guarantee .. you can wash them and use them again .. etc .. etc. ..

Did any one of you ever tried these air filters?
How much, really, can you gain with these filters when it comes to power output .. in general?
Here, in Serbia, they are around 90 EUR ...

Any info regarding these filters would be much appreciated.

thanx in advace ..

A few simple questions:

1. How do I remove it? I checked it now and realized it is inserted into some kind of cardboard "sleeve". (if people could see 30 yrs ago what kind of crap materials they use in cars, they would be amazed, it looks like some recycled material...) I even managed to break a piece of it. I guess there is a screw in the base of the battery somewhere?

2. Is the battery so called "maintenance free" and I do not have to worry about it, or is it regular lead-acid type that requires regular checking?

3. How long can I realistically expect the battery to last? This question might be difficult to answer considering that Ceed is on the market just a few years.

:D

Has anyone had the official Kia front sensors fitted?

If so do they have a switch to turn them off to avoid nuisance activation? If so where does this switch fit?

I know there are all sorts of other non Kia alternatives, but at the moment I am only interested in the Kia kit.

As the topic started to wonder in this thread, I'd thought I'd better start a new top on the prices paid for a new Ceed.

I have two new Kia's and during the scrappage scheme (which is what we used when we got our Soul), Kia dealers weren't budging at all on prices as they were selling so well. A year later, when I wanted to buy the Ceed, I generally found the same at my local dealer, but after shopping around on the internet and making a few calls, I found that some dealers were willing to negotiate a little more, but not by much.
I then looked into the online brokers and sites like AUTOeBID. Generally they pre-register the car, which I wasn't too keen on as I wanted to put my private plate and not have the extra hassle of waiting for the DVLA docs etc. I then found the best deal I could, then added a bit and then emailed all the Kia dealers within 3 hours drive from me, offering to buy this particular model and spec at a specified price. The key bargaining angle is that I did this on the last day of the month (May). This was in the hope that one dealer would sell at a low margin (or even a loss) to make up their targets and obviously get the commission bonus.
A few dealers called me and said "no chance in buying a new Kia for that". But one dealer did take the order, after thinking about it for four hours. I just had to agree to place the order by the end of the day and pay the £500 deposit, which I did.
The car arrived 28 days later - half the estimated time too.

Price paid for Ceed SW 3 CRDi including metallic paint - £14,707 on the road (includes VAT at 15%). List price at the time was £17,755.
Total discount = £3,048.

Not quite as good as Adriano's price of £14,275 but then he did get a £500 loyalty bonus, which I didn't get as I wasn't trading in. And he did also get free mats and mudflaps. Adriano - did you get a good price for your trade-in, as this is where they could have made up some of their money?

....are they the same?
Probably a silly question but I thought I'd just check prior to going out and getting some.
Just going to pick a front set up from the local car place probably halfords and fit them if this rain ever stops.

I was tempted to order parts from Kia but they'll be over priced and my mate who did my last service checked everything and is certain by the trouble he had checking and removing the calipers that the dealers hadn't bothered in that area on the last service they had done!!!

Really hope that with the KIA parts he used and the stamp in the book my warrenty is still solid, as it was so nice watching him work, looking over and explaining eveything, where as I feel that the KIA dealers could easily just have changed the oil and a few filters and ticked all the boxes, cleaned the car and charged me £100's of pounds.

Here is the HID conversion.

I bought the kit some time ago (about 4 years or so) through the Lotus Owners Club as it also fits the Elise.

The kits are quite universal and this is an H7 kit to directly replace the standard H7 halogen bulbs.

You can also buy adaptor rings to fit a standard D2R HID bulb but the connectors are different on a D2R bulb to those on the Kia (or any H7 equipped car). So, it's easier to fit a conversion kit for H7.

You can buy them quite cheaply on ebay but I'd avoid anything too cheap!

Mine cost £150, they are as little as £10 from some sellers but I would think the quality is poor.

I'd also avoid anything over 6000 kelvin colour temperature, even 6000k are a little blue! The kit I fitted is 4800k and is very OEM looking.

Fitting the bulb is easy, just plugs in like the regular bulb but you have some wiring to accomodate in the lamp housing and therefore have to cut a hole in the access plate on the back of each lamp (an easily replacable part if you mess up)! A large rubber grommet fits in there and the wiring passes through it between the bulb and the ballast.

Fitting the ballast units was the hardest part as there is limited space and I did not want to drill mounting holes in my bodywork. I was able to fix the ballast into the side of each headlight unit using a single cable tie for each ballast unit. It ended up a nice neat and tidy job.

I'll take some photos within the next few days and post them up here.

Technically speaking the kit is not legal in any car that does not have a headlamp washer jet system. You will also hear people say that the lights are not suitable in the Cee'd for HID but that is not true, the Cee'd has no fluted or fresnel glass and no defracted reflectors and the bulb in the headlight fits inside a tube to throw light back light into the reflector, the result is that you do not have light scatter and therefore, the Cee'd headlights are most suitable for HID conversion.

The only thing I need to do is raise them up slightly and I may look into fitting a headlamp washer system in the future.

I'd be very surprised if they'd fail a future MOT as they are now since they do not dazzle and have a good crisp beam and if I am concerned I can easily leave all the kit in and pop the halogen H7 bulb back in for the MOT. That is very easy to do.

Sorry, I have not had the chance to wash the car since the weekend so the headlights have spray off the roads on them.

Here are sidelights and dipped beams (now HID).

Here are the ballasts fitted alongside each headlight.

How can you adjust the headlights on a Pro-cee'd or Cee'd?

I have the electric load level adjusters but the highest setting is still a little too low.

I have an HID kit fitted and it is a huge improvement.
The beam heights were OK with halogen bulbs but with the slightly longer HID bulbs now fitted the effect is that the beams are now slightly too low.

Can anyone post a pic please of where the manual height adjusters can be found on the back of the headlamp units?

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi Folks;

I have just bought a new 2010 Pro-Cee'd Strike.

I opted for different alloys instead of the special edition storm grey alloys (I still have the 16" brand new storm grey alloys and new unused Michelin tyres if anyone is interested).

I went for Arctic White with black and grey leather interior and since purchase I've had the mirror backs colour coded and I'm fitting some driving lamps in the housings in the bumper.

Hopefully, these photo links will work :)

Hi guys,

So my proceed is still in its engine running-in phase and been taking a close look at the trip computer. been noticing that the fuel economy has been steadily improving which is guess is normal while its in this phase (in the last 50km went from 10l/100km to 8.5l/100km with AC on).

however, on the dash i sometimes also see a very brief arrow pointing either up or down with a number next to it above where "odo" is written. anyone knows what this means? Is it related to fuel economy in any way? I checked the manual but it doesnt seem to be documented? I'm a bit curious in case anyone knows?... :)

thanks
