I recently had to have an engine replaced in my wife's 2000 Kia Sephia. When we got it back, the tranny (auto) shifted hard & late (>5000 rpm), and did not want to go into 3rd. Also, the check engine light & O/D off light were on. The O/D button is not working. I did an diagnostic check & came up with the following codes:

P1505
P1624
P0713
P0131

Doe ANYONE have any ideas??

Our 2006 Sportage 2.7L randomly stalls out at such times as turning slowly on to a side road or while idling at a traffic light, it has < 14k miles.

We have taken the Sportage to the dealer and they replaced the catalytic converter, this did nothing to help the problem. Now, they have not been able to find any computer codes from these incidents, and have not been able to recreate the problem.

We are getting a bit desperate as this is a clear safety issue. Any help much appreciated!

Anyone know how far down the oil pickup goes into the drain pan? I ran over a big hunk of wood and dented the pan. This is an '05 Sportage 2.7. I know it's a 2 piece pan, so I'm lucky in that way. I've driven it for a short distance and it seems ok, no oil light or funny noises.

Thanks.

The picture is viewed from the back of the car, if you look below the oil pan drain plug you can see the dent.

Sirius Radio Connections

Hi!

I just purchased a 09 Sportage last weekend and I've been having some connection issues with the Sirius radio.

My previous car had xm radio and i had zerio issues unless i was under a bridge etc and you would see the signal cut off until i was in the clear again.

With the unit on my Sportage, i can be out in the open with nothing in sight and the radio will stop and i look at it and it's saying 'Acquiring Signal' which seems to take ages.

I've looked at the aerial on the back and it seems to be firm and not unscrewed?

I'm just wondering if there's something I've missed before i contact the dealer?

Thanks for any input!

I had a bracelet sitting on my dash in the little scoop, not smart I know. Anyway, I had to make a quick stop and the bracelet slid right into the defroster vents by the windshield. I have called hte dealership here and they said it could be $50-100 for them to get it out. Does anyone know how I can get my bracelet out? I just don't know what part it could have fallen into or how to get to it. The inside of those vents all taper into one hole in the center, which is covered by a little knob type thing. Anyway, any suggestions would be great. I believe I'm capable of taking whatever needs to be taken apart, I just need to know what and how to take apart.

*Size:* P235/60R16 (stock size by choice)
*Install date: * 10/7/09
*Installed by:* Big O Tires
*Price: * Franchise matched Tirerack.com, total “out-the-door” with all expected services - $536.03 to include lifetime rotation every 5K <--KILLER Deal overall IMO
*Miles driven:* ~1000
*Psi:* 40

*Driving conditions:* Brutal versus the average commuter as I described in a previous post. Daily includes rough mountain terrain, dirt, washboard, ruts, mud, rocks, gravel, heavy snow, ice, hard-pack, asphalt with tight switch-backs, mountain pass ascent/decent spanning ~6000 to 9250 feet elevation change, metro freeways at highway speeds, city streets both good and poor condition (generally 0-85mph max), you name it…I drive on it and cover ~400 miles per week
*Driving style:* Aggressive (well…as aggressive as one can reasonably be in a Kia CUV with common sense always prevailing)

*Tirerack rating: * 8 out of 21 tires (Score of 8.3 vs best tire in category score of 8.8)

*My ratings & comments against the same categories:* Put these in the FWIW & YMMV buckets...
* *Buy again: * 10 (at this point, most definitely, after 5, 10 or 20K miles+ is TBD of course)
* *Hydroplaning resistance:* 9 (have driven thru heavy run-off on highways, off-camber = solid)
* *Wet traction:* 9 (see above)
* *Cornering stability: * 8.9 (lower than TR, why? I can “feel” the more pliant sidewall of an on/off road design on heavy cornering at-speed = deal with it, a trade-off and zero complaint here) **
* *Dry traction:* 9.8 (excellent to-date but still breaking-in if you ask me)
* *Steering response:* 8.0 (lower than TR, why? Again, on/off-road and I occasionally notice some “float”) **
* *Light snow:* 9.3 (they are excellent)
* *Heavy snow:* 9.8 (they completely kick-***, I had 4 feet plus of snow at my residence last week, trust me, they perform well in deep snow)
* *Ice: *8.5 (tested on multiple occasions is various ambient temperatures – great performance)
* *Ride comfort: * 9.5 (excellent, at least to me)
* *Noise comfort: * 9.5 (again, excellent to me. I cannot belive how quiet these babies are, especially on the highway for an on/off road tire)
* *Tread wear: * N/A (not enough miles)

Am I biased? You bet, I researched em’, bought em’ and I’m going to be biased but…net- Exceeding my expectations to-date, by far. What will I say after many miles? Unknown but I’ll give you a sincere answer if I find they suck in any given performance category over time and after some wear.

*Favorite moment so far: * My neighbor “up the mountain next to my property” had his 96’ Tacoma all-over-the-floor in ~10-12” of wet, deep snow, couldn’t make it up his half-mile drive. I slapped my heavy-duty strap on the little Kia and dragged his Toyota all the way to his drive area, in the deep white stuff, in ruts, up a significant grade. The ol’ Sportage was locked in 4x4, with the ESC off, the Yokes “locked-up instantly and crisply” and simply impressed us both. Ok…ok…this Sportage ain’t no Tacoma and there is a caveat here as to why he was stuck. 1) Big, fat, semi-bald treads that at one time were nice tires…not anymore and the big one 2) The transfer case is currently out and he is limited to 2-wheel, rear-drive only. But…it was still damn funny watchin’ the Kia come to the rescue and “drag a Tacoma up the mountain-side!”

** I'm coming off of a reference-point running Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 225/50/R17 on a ballsy Maxima...I have to reset my handling expectations.

*A Geo fresh off the daily grind, they take a pounding up-here:*Image: http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r14/cunroe/Com1.jpg?t=1257289926

Been to the dealer 3 times and won't be going back.Changed the thermostat and it did nothing,I read somewhere that it mifgt be the pollen filter. The blower and AC work fine ,when it was new we had to turn down the heat because it got too hot in the car ,any ideas ?

Hi folks,

new to Kia's and really impressed with our 2007 Sportage XS Manual Diesel. What a car!

However...... ;) being new to 4x4's we have noticed an unusual 'sensation' when stopping..... basically we occassionally (more often than not in fact)get a gentle 'thud' which i can only describe as a feeling that the 4wd engagement is occurring when we stop! When we set off it is fine although there is a very slight shudder. The thud is similar to the thud you occassionally get when engaging the 4wd lock..... but much gentler.....

It has been back to the dealership and they have replaced the 4wd control unit. But it persists....! I will be taking it back in next week, but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if so, what was the cause or is it normal? They have said that they have had this only once before and it took quite some time to locate the fault (which is what they have just replaced and hasn't worked).

Thanks in advance!

recently got a new fob from the dealer and they said it would take an hour to program! I have already checked out the thread that had directions and it didn't apply to a 2009 sportage, looked under the console for the button to initiate the programming but no luck. the dealer mentioned they had to connect it to a computer? is anyone familiar with this. thanks in advance.

New "Beefy-er" Tires for 07 Sportage 4x4-Pics? Suggestions?

My DD's original tires are needing to be replaced before the winter. (27,000 miles on them-I thought they would last a little longer!)
Anyway, we will be going to Les Schwab Tires to get some new ones. (we go there cuz DH gets all the tires for his work there=good deal).
I suggested she get something little beefy-er with a little more aggresive tread. Does anyone have any pics of Sportages with bigger tires as an example or suggestions for tires? I want her to get some that don't rub and won't require any lifting or spacers.
Thanks

2006 Sportage EX rear wiper

OOPS....the title should say 2006 Sportage not 2996...lol

The rear wiper on my 2006 Sportage EX works except the blade doesn't touch the window very well and only clears a partial path.
The black plastic cover #1 is broken where it meets #3 (see photo) although both parts are still attached to the wiper.

Is that why the wiper does a bad cleaning job? Do I need to buy a whole wiper/blade/cover or can I just buy/replace the broken cover?
Thanks
