98 Sephia headlights intermittently dim (H20 damage)

Greetings All,

I own 98 Kia Sephia with dual high beam/low beam H1 bulbs. The high beams work perfectly the low beams are intermittently dim (mostly dim, only brightening up occasionally).

When I purchased the car about 4 months ago I had to replace both taillight and pass side headlight assemblies as the lenses had been cracked and water had leaked in burning out several sockets.

I've personally checked my battery and alternator output and both are in excellent condition. I do not believe it is trouble with the sockets or bulbs as both headlights are either dim or bright simultaneously.

When the headlights do brighten up I have yet to notice any coinciding events. Flipping the high beams up and down does not change anything, putting other loads (blower, radio) on alternator does not seem to make any difference.

Just sometimes at night while maybe just driving down the highway, cruising in 5th gear I will suddenly be a safe driver as the headlights brighten up and the road appears.

Need get this fixed soon. I'm on a tight budget...but with my Hanes and a recommendation where to start I think I can continue making my own repairs.

Any help appreciated,
Sue

windshield-water pump

I'm not getting any windshield fluid from the pump. I just checked the pump and doesn't make any sound when blades are working. What should I do?

Is there a fuse for the pump? I can't find it on the diagram.
How can I replace the pump itself?

I would appreciate any answer on this. I'm out of options now trying to do this by myself. Kind regards,

Question In Regards to Codes

Hello,

I own a '01 Kia Sephia and about 2 weeks ago I had 1 serpentine belt replaced. Afterwords, I drove about 300 miles, and my O/D Light came on. A little later after that, the check engine light came on, and the O/D off light is flashing. I went to get codes to see what the problem was, and I got 5 codes came up (I imagine that's a little above average).

P1624 - Manufacturer control auxiliary inputs and outputs.

P0705 - Trans range sensor circuit malfunction (P R N D L inputs).

P0734 - Gear 4 ratio incorrect.

P1700 - Manufacturer control transmission.

P0740 - TCC circuit malfunction.

I do not know a lot about cars, but I guess all these are all at least related to the same thing? (the transmission) I need to drive back home (300 miles), and I wanted to know is it drivable for another 300 miles before repairing, how much it is to fix, or if there is a temporary fix to get me to the next location. There has been no noticeable changes in the way the car drives.

Any advice would help,

Thank you.

unknown kia sephia -limited edition?

Hi everyone,

This is my first post and i'd like to ask some information about my kia sephia. it's a 4th owner kia, and i don't have much information on it because of that. what i do know is the following:

- it has a DOHC engine. the are other labels on the engine but i don't know enough to identify it. i've seen the DOHC engine though, and i'm sure of that.

- it has a limited edition decal at the rear, as well as GLX on it. i'm not sure if these were labels placed by a previous owner, or a legit decal.

- it is a 5 speed manual shift

- by comparing it with other pictures posted, it looks like a 1st generation sephia.

- it has a digital dashboard, as well as power windows and doors

can anyone help me identify the year of my sephia, as well as other details on the engine such as displacement? also some information on the speakers. i wish to fix it up, and i'm having a very hard time getting parts for it.

thank you very much!

o2 sensor problems

i have an 2000 sephia . the original o2 sensors were dead i replaced them with universal sensors. the new sensors do not come with the connecters so at first i used the crimp connecters that came with it to connect to connecter end . low voltage codes started to come up on both sensors. was told to solder the wires together, now i am getting no activity detected on the upstream sensor and low voltage on the down stream sensor. when this happens the engine will shut down. live data reading indicates that when i take my foot off the accelerator the signal from the sensor drops to zero triggering the fault codes. any ideas from anyone.

How many amps does my car use?

Hi. I've just bought a 50A amperemeter which I am planning to install by the mainfuse in order to be able to see all of the amps that are drawn from the battery. The thing is that main fuse is 80A and along with it I have another single cable supplying a computer and a weak amplifier (this cable is fused with 30A and has never broken). What I am wondering about is if 80A is way more than the car will ever use when all lights, window wiper etc turned on? Or is maybe installing the 50A amperemeter not such a good idea?
