The light came on this morning. I took it to Autozone to have the computer read, but the guy said that he can only read check engine codes.

Any ideas?
It comes on with the rest of the lighs when cranked. Goes off for about 1 second then comes on and stays.

03 Spectra, problems running in the cold

I have a weird problem with a 2003 Kia Spectra. Originally it would have a weird hesitation problem when it was first started that only lasted a second or two and then it was fine. Now the hesitation has turned into a stutter, and it stutters both under acceleration and coasting. But once the engine gets warm, all of the problems go away.

I initially thought plugs/wires but it doesn't make sense that it quits doing it after the engine is warm. And this issue is much worse when it's cold outside than when it's warm. For the life of me I can't think of anything that would effect the engine timing/firing because of outside tempature.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Oh, and the check engine light is one, and when it starts stuttering the check engine light starts flashing. Haven't had the codes pulled to know why yet, though.

Thanks for any advice.

Hey all I have a problem like I said it started with the trans started slipping between shifts. I took it to Kia for service and they fixed it by making a few adjustments they said.
It did get better but 3 months later it started the same thing only worse, the revs flare up and it clunks into 3rd.
I read on a consumer report that the computer needs reprogramming to fix this exact problem.
Anyone else have this issue at all.

As the title states, on my 2000 Spectra both CV boots are destroyed and i am getting a clicking sound when turning the wheel. I know they need replaced. How tough of a job is it? I am very mechanically inclined. Also can i replace the boot only or do i need to replace the whole axle assy? I feel like i'm going to end up spending more to fix it than the dang car is worth. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm outside my 36k mile warranty by 1k so the shop won't fix it for free

Is there any way I can fix this? The manual wasn't really helpful. I also searched the forums and couldn't find an answer after a few pages.

Basically, when I plug my aux cable in it becomes every static and hissy. When I play music, the sound is low and flat.

I tried switching cables and also using a different mp3 player but still had the same results.

Any help or suggestions? I wanna see if I can fix it myself before sending it off to a cheaper mechanic

I just bought an 03 Spectra. Actually I just bought an 06 for my DTR and liked it so well I bought myself an 03 to park my F-250 and save some gas.
This thing has 136K on it and has no drips or rattles and the interior is perfect. What a bargin!
My problem is the doors lock when the ignition is turned on and I've locked myself out with the engine running twice while crawling around checking this and changing that. Thankfully it's been here at the house, so I t hasn't been a real problem. Yet!
The Question:
Is there a turn key code to change or disable this function?

I once had a vehicle that you turned the key so many times between on and off, the dash lights blinked and you pushed some buttons on the remote. I can't remember exactly, but maybe there's a way here.

My 05 Spectra started giving me a P0449 code today. I cannot figure out what the "vent valve solenoid circuit" is, or what the "EVAP vent valve" is. I have taken the gas cap off and reinserted it, making sure to get enought clicks.

I cannot find this code on your OBD 2 code list either. The only thing I can think is the gas cap could be bad and not sealing. Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

Okay, i got this air intake filter cone, and it's currently connected to the factory tubing (that black hose). I wanted to get the most out of it as i can, so should I switch out the black hose with aluminum tubing? Or is it better to leave it with the factory black hose? Would I see a better gain and a better noise?

Thanks.

Today on my way to work I stopped at a drive-thru espresso and noticed I had 2 warning lights light up. They werent on when I left my house.

1) Brake warning light - E-Brake is not engaged and fluid level is good (between max and min.)

2) Charging System light - Belt is good and no lights dimming when stopped at a light with Heater/Defroster, Radio, amp and sub running. Car starts fine when I shut it off.

The Check Engine light is not on and After shutting it off I restarted and it started fine but the 2 warning lights are still on. Any Ideas of what the problem is?

Thanks

battery surged or something, sounded like a power line transformer bursting under my hood. Alternator gone, stereo gone, amp gone. E'brake light, airbag light, and battery light are all permanently on on the dash display.

Put a new battery in, car will start and run off the battery, all exterior lights/interior lights and AC components are functioning fine.

Taking it in tomorrow and just curious how yall think things are going to play out with warranty and such, all components were original factory, all that's been changed is the intake and an amp cable running to my amp from the battery (no subs in the car and amp was off at time, still took it out though)

I just got this car two months ago, the car seems to run great so far.. aside from the heater. In order for the heat to come on the car has to be running above 3000 rpm. Its no problem when I'm going long distances however, driving around town is very cold. I took it into the shop thinking it was a coolant or thermostat issue, and they checked em both out, saying they were both fine. The car only has 41k miles on it. I'm outta ideas. I'm hoping that someone here can give me some new ideas on what the problem might be.

Thanks!
