I'm thinking the oil dipstick in our '09 Optima may not be accurate? Just had oil changed, with new filter, added 4.5 qts of oil and the dipstick only reads to just under the fill line. The owners manual says 4.5 qts will fill it, but the dipstick says it's NOT filled. Any ideas?: confused:

P0340 reading on 2004 Optima

A few weeks ago, I had driven my Optima around town. A couple hours later, as I was about to go to work, I started the car and began backing out of the driveway when the engine died. I tried repeatedly to start it again and it would turn over and sound like it was firing but would not run when the starter was not turning. I checked the fuel pump and that is working fine.

The next thing checked was the coils on top of the spark plugs. One of them produced a spark and the other didn't (the passenger side one). The coils were switched and the passenger side coil still would not spark but the driver's side did. Obviously the coils were fine but something was preventing the passenger side from sparking.

Yesterday I bought a OBD II PocketScan Code reader and it is only showing one code, P0340 (Camshaft Position Sensor A - Bank 1 Circuit Malfunction). I've been reading threads on here trying to figure out what to check next or what to do from here.....beginning to get confused. Looks like some people are saying crankshaft position sensors could cause this, others are saying timing and there are other threads with the camshaft sensor answer. Since the code is reading that the camshaft sensor is the issue, where do I find this thing and how hard is it to get to it and check/replace it? Is there something else I should also check?

The car has about 110,000 miles on it and this is the second issue I've ever had with it. The first was last summer when I had to have someone work on it. I'm not making the money I was last year so I have to try to fix this myself and as cheap as possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

okay.... very glad this site is here and thank you all in advance for any and all assistance.
my friends 06 doors are havin a problem i have read about in here and think the solution is the latch. the door unlocks ( drivers door is the only one with the problem), but once the handle is grabbed it locks before he can get the door open. the problem is we need to get the door open to check it out further and fix it. how do we get the darn door opened??? and if it turns out to be the solenoid i have read about is there a way to bypass it??

Hi:

I have a 2004 Optima with the Infinity stereo system in it. Apparently, the amp is still drawing power after the ignition switch is turned off. It pulls about .30 amps.
Needless to say, the battery isn't very fond of this.........and I'd really like to be able to use the radio again.

I have pulled the fuse to the amp.

I was wondering if anyone here has had this problem, and (if so) how did you fix it?

Thanks, in advance, for your time and consideration.

Frank

p.s.: I had posted this question in the 1st generation forum but had gotten no replies, so I am re-posting it here. Thanks.

Someone please HELP ME!!! I have a 2005 Kia Optima. Whenever I go to fill it up with gas it won't start right away. It usually takes 3-5 times before it will start but after that it runs perfectly fine. I've tried letting the gas get down to 1/2 tank and 1/4 tank and both times after filling up I can't start it. This only happends after I get gas. I've tried fuel injection cleaner and it helps a little but then it goes right back to the same old thing. Does anyone know what this could be and how to fix it??
Thanks!

It's probably a simple answer but I just want to know so I don't hit any electronics or anything for that matter.

I have a temp gauge problem, which started 2 days ago. I start the car and 1-2 minutes later the temp gauge climbs to almost the red-zone. I had the coolant and water checked, all are fine. What would cause this and am I doing damage to the engine by driving it?
