hello to anyone who is a newbie and all others as well (who actually know what there doing...lol)
we replaced the timing belt (our 2 day project...LOL) last night and with the directions it was great except for some iff's...i wrote more questions online and thank god some of you replied because i dont know what we would have done without ya..so thank you
but just to let some of you know if you already dont :
When it says 12'o clock position they mean it....on the back plate there is an indent of a letter "I" on your left and an "E" on your right directly inbetween the two top wheels
Now we assumed that is where u lined up the i and e on the wheels...NO NO NO!
above the edge to the backplate there are a ridge kinda dent above the two wheels
there are tiny line indent mark above the letter ON THE WHEEL ITSELF
that are your line up points(REMEMBER THIS) BECAUSE....we didnt see them at first as far as where to line up....check out the pics that someone sent me under...TIMING BELT OR NOT under the kia sportage forum...THEY ARE A GODSEND!!!! without them the directions are like great but not really great. PICTURES are always better...LOL
now the only problem we had was putting the belt on because the camshaft kept moving as well as the wheels above....the easiest way for us was to put the belt on everywhere except near the tensioner on the left where we took a long screw driver and wedged it on there(YES, the wheel kept moving but we just had to keep trying over and over-we eventually got it right)
SO JUST IN CASE ANYONE ELSE HAS THIS PROBLEM....I REALLY HOPE THIS HELPED...becasue with everyone else helping us i thought i would tell you from a newbie....IT REALLY WASNT THAT HARD TO DO AS LONG AS U HAVE A LITTLE PATIENCE OR EVEN NONE LIKE ME...LOL
GOOD LUCK!!!
