My wifes 2001 Rio engine light came on, I connected a tester to it and I got two error codes a 101 and a 400. I turned the light off, it stayed off for three days and came on again giving the same error codes. Anyone have a fix for this problem?

Sounds like you're going to need a mass air flow sensor. Have it checked before replacing it though. Sometimes things get stuck on the film inside, so you can take a look at that and make sure nothing is stuck in there, but it will probably need to be replaced.

Will the scanner you have show any data on the MAF?

No my scanner will not show any data on the MAF, will Auto Zone test the mass air flow sensor? Thanks for your help!

P0101 : Mass air flow (MAF) sensor circuit range/performance problem

I had one eventually go out on a Buick Lesabre I owned...you can clean it...just be very careful with it. And don't use alcohol...a cotton swab and little water will work fine...the exposed metal in the MAF sensor is very sensitive (I believe its platinum wires wrapped around ceramic bobbins...not the bass fishing type either LOL). If you're a real geek...put voltimeter on the the thing...when the one I had in the LeSabre went...it wasn't putting out any voltage readings at all. Bottom line is that when air passes over the sensor...a voltage reading should be realized and sent to the ECM...if that voltage reading is out of range or not present...the MAF needs to be replaced.

These have the hot-film sensors, not the type you are describing. They can still be cleaned though, if that's the problem.

You can use a voltmeter to check it, but you wouldn't be able to see any waveform problems.

I have no idea if Autozone can check the sensor, sorry.
