This is specific to the 2002 Kia Sedona but likely applies to other years and models as well. Also, it only applies to the problem where the three pronged-metal contact has come loose from the climate zone (dash/defrost/floor/combined) and/or air temp switch. For the climate zone control, this is indicated by air coming only out of the dash vents regardless of switch position. For air temp, this may be indicated by getting lukewarm air regardless of A/C or heater settings.

1. Remove center dash console piece (cigarette lighter, 12V power outlet, ashtray, etc.) and trim. These are held in place by one screw (beneath ashtray) and several clips.

2. Remove the four screws holding panel with climate control and other switches.

3. Disconnected electric plugs (depress holding clips). These may already be color-coded. If they are not, make a note and/or take a picture.

4. Once the panel if free, take it into your garage, workshop, or even to the kitchen table (as it'll be reasonably clean).

5. Remove all screws and release all clips necessary to expose printed circuit board ( PCB ). (See 01.jpg.)

BE WATCHING FOR THE THREE-PRONGED METAL CONTACT. YOU DO NOT WANT TO LOSE OR DAMAGE IT.

(See 02.jpg.)

6. Remove screws holding PCB.

7. The switch is attached to the PCB by two screws and two white clips. (See 06.jpg.)

8. Once the switch is removed, separate the two sections of the switch (black front from clear back) by depressing the clips that hold them together.

9. Insert the three-pronged metal contact piece through the slot in the clear part of the switch. The shorter, probably slightly bent, prongs go into the switch. The longer prongs stick out. If only one of the switches (climate zone or air temp) is damaged, use the other switch as a reference.

10. Bend the prongs inserted into the switch. The center one should be bent back (away from the square aligning notch) and the two side prongs should be bent forward. The contact prongs-- the ones sticking out of the switch-- should remain straight.

(See 08.jpg & 09.jpg.)

11. Using a thick adhesive (hot glue worked well for me), fill-- do not overfill-- the small cavity holding the bent prongs. This will prevent the problem from recurring. (See 07.jpg.)

12. Reassemble (opposite of disassembly). (See 10.jpg.)

AFTER REATTACHING ELECTRIC PLUGS BUT BEFORE REASSEMBLING THE PANEL HOLDING THE CLIMATE CONTROL AND OTHER SWITCHES, ENSURE THAT EVERYTHING IS OPERATING AS INTENDED.

Estimated time: 30 minutes (longer if using an adhesive that takes longer to set).

Question same problem on an "02 Spectra

We have the same problem with the climate control switch on our Spectra, and I'm sure I could fix it (from readingb this thread), if only I could find out how to remove the surrounding paneling. Anyone ever tried this?

Since removing the trim is specific to the Spectra, try posting a question to the proper forum here:

Good luck!

I've searched the site but have been unable to find information on repairing the Climate Zone switch in a 2002 Spectra. Can anyone help?
THANKS!

This repair might work if you can figure out how to get the switch out.
