Unhappy My Spec 5 is totalled

...at least it appears that way and a body shop pretty much said it was.

Got rear ended by a guy while I was almost stoped waiting in traffic...I neded up getting slammed into the car in front of me and she (unlicensed and no insurance btw), and she hit the guy in front of her.

Anyway the fron looks not so good and the back looked like it held well, but when I opened the hatch, the whole undefloor area crumbled and shot the spare tire out of it's hole.

So now I' awaiting the guys insurance to interview all of us and get the claims started ASAP I hope...the body shop said it was unsafe to drive so I left it there over the weekend and next week while we await work from the insurance folks.

Sucks...it was a year old ..got it in Feb 08 and really like it...had my XM all set up and it was a harder to find sunroof/ABS model.

The local dealer has a used black 2008 with 13K miles (mine had 9k) but it has no rood or ABS. .

Not sure if I'm gonna stick with KIA or not..I want to, but not sure since the Spec5 is hard to find around here new.

No can do...it's sitting at the body sop awaiting tear down to determine what total amount of damage is.

Both shops I went to looked inside the cargo area and of course the rest of the area and said they'd be surprised if it wasn't totaled seeing that the car is only worth around $13K and the damage visually only comes to nearly $9K++

its not gonna be the same but once the main damage is off check out parts yards for the support beams and frame pieces and possibly the body panels too , then paint your whole car to a new color.

Alfer, did you ever get an answer? I'm interested because I agreed with the others that said it looked fixable. Of course, you never know with frames but it really doesn't look that bad from the outside.

Sorry for the delay! been hectic few weeks.

Well the shop called a few days after they got word it was ok to do the estimate tear down.

Their verdict was that it WAS fixable to the tune of $7600. They said there was no critical damage done...just bumpers, tailgate, and some other outer body work..also needed a new radiator bracket and new muffler set up.

I was really hoping for the car to get totaled as one other shop figured would happen just because I don't like the idea of having the car pieced together like Frankenstein but oh well.

Geico guarantees the work for the life of the car and that included ANY Geico authorized shop in the USA if I were to move or be out of town etc.

Wish me luck, it's due back this coming week!

Well it's back...overal I'd say they did a nice job, but their QA isn't top notch...I found an interior trim piece that was way out of line, some bubbles in the window tint that wasn't the before, a couple of missing screws in the rear hatch assembly, and a rubber bumper was missing from under the hood.

Not to mention they didn't do the best job getting the interior cleaned out...there was a lot of body shop/pain dust all in the car and on the fabric I had to clean.

I plan to call them in the morning to have it all looked over again.

Wish me luck!
