The 2.0 turbo looks like a good engine. Right now Jetta only offers 2.5 for base Jetta, then the 2.0 for the SEL wagon which is 27k. The TDI wagon is also going to be about 26k.
JD Powers only rated the Jetta at 4 out of 10? maybe JDP is FOS? I don't know. But that DSG tranny cost 6,500 to replace.
The Spectra5 as well as Matrix had about 2'' more head room than Jetta which was really nice for me being tall.
I don't even think you can find a 2.0 turbo Jetta around here.
So far I'm pleased with the Spec5. Hope it holds up with the funky little wheels and all but at least I'm only getting punked for 16k instead of 26k.
How would you compare your Spec5 to your VW? Is the Spec5 a good value? While the VW is a nicer car?
I really gave the Jetta a close look but the math just didn't work out this time.
If you are looking for a nice hatchback then I would definitely look at the MazdaSpeed3 and the GTI. They are both turbo'd and they are around the same price for the same options. With either of these two I wouldn't worry too much about the resale value since they last forever and don't need the 100000 mile warranty to pull you in and make up for the depreciation right off the curb. Read the reviews in MotorTrend and Car and Driver on the comparo that they did. Import tuner did the same thing and came up with the same conclution. The Mazdaspeed3 won hands down.
Here's another option.....The new Chevy Cobalt SS. Front wheel drive, 268HP, 23K fully loaded, 8:28 around the Nurenburg Ring (Corvette Z06 - 7:22), turbo'd instead of supercharged this year. If I was going to get another little car this would be my choice.
I think the Mazda3 only comes in a 2.4L. That pretty much strikes it right off the list for me. You can go to edmonds.com and read the real world mpg. I'm getting over 30 mixed with AC on. So, the numbers work. Spectra5 can be had for quite a bit less too.
AC probs can be caused by turning on the AC when the car is too hot. Also the tires need to be aligned.
Not knocking the Mazda3, but I also don't pay too much heed to test drive reviews. Usually they say the Kia isn't sexy enough, etc, but a nice car.

The DSG is very nice ,better than any one belongs to kia after 10years(no comparison at all,the kia after 3 years like a vw after 10 years and for the spare parts it may be a little expenceive but there are huge diffrent in duribality
Consumer Reports has VW ranked next to dead last in reliability. The Kia keeps moving up the scale. JD Powers has Jetta, Passet, 4 out of 10 in reliability while Spectra, etc Kia is 8 out of 10. Higher than Toyota.
Not disagreeing with anyone. But maybe VW's made in Mexico don't have the same quality control?
I had a Chevy truck 2500 bad boy and the rotors craped out on me after 36k. I did dive down a dirt road a lot and sometimes salt water that got on the road and dirt, although not much and I washed them out all the time.
Anyway, the VW's were overpriced for the TDI, 2.0, in an expensive package, like 27k, and the base VW all had 2.5, that were way too big. Same with Subaru and a lot of others.
Maybe American's didn't really care about mileage but now we do?
I looked real hard at a VW so I'm not saying they are bad cars. I think they even sell a Golf TDI in Europe by not here.
I'm getting over 30 in the city so I'm happy for now. Lets hope it holds up.

Why do you choose to ignore Consumer Reports and JD Powers? You can do some research and find the the VW is very unreliable. Like I said the VW is ranked second to last behind the Range Rover in Consumer Reports.
Also, the fact that you admit to driving at a high rate of speed, 200km, says a lot about the way you treat your cars. Maybe you should have gotten a BMW? As a Kia isn't meant for hard driving or that kind of abuse.
What if everyone drove 200km? Wouldn't this add to global warming, not to mention wearing your car out? I wonder why the rest of the world complains so much about global warming yet continue to drive as if there is no tomorrow?

Dear Sir,
I am not a crazy driver at all more over I am not so young and our roads are terrible.
My point of view is only example to show the different in quality
The OEM tires in a KIA is kumho or Han kook (good year only in USA) look for vw you will find Bridgestone etc
Brake pads in KIA is Manado in vw is ate (you will feel the different when you will use the brakes)
I am a believer that the experience is the only way to know the truth and most of the reports are doubtful.
Most of the cars here are Korean Hyundai 50%, Daewoo 20% and all other brands 30%
so we know every thing about the Korean cars (we only buy them for the price and no more example the jetta cost double the price of cerato)
