Default Rear Fog Light

Hey there

Any cerato owners have models with rear fog lights. Looked all over the internet for some pics or info on the cerato 5drs rear fog light and came up with nothing but auto sales sites. I wanted to get the rear fog light switch and was interesting in getting some European cerato tail lights to use the rear foglight. It was a mod I always did on all my VW and my ford truck. Was a great safety feature in the heavy fog upsate NY when I spend a few months at my folks house. Sucks that is approved by the DOT and almost every state but is not standard on most cars in the USA

Just not foggy very often here in Mass. They are an excellent idea, though.

here in australia they are standard, what did u want to know about them????

I think the new 07 model here has returned to the rear fog lights in the bumper as opposed to the 06 which is integrated into the rear lights

They looked into this on one of the Elantra forums. They decided not to do it because the Aussie tale lamp assemblies were not US DOT approved (you can tell if the DOT initials are molded into the plastic). Luckily for Elantra hatch owners, the rear fog lights are there but not wired. Run a wire and it's good to go.

I ended up adding front and rear fog lights. They light up semi-independently: With ignition in ON I can turn the front fogs on any time. I got a blinker switch at a junkyard from an XG350 that had the fog light switch built into it. That XG also had auto lights, so the headlight switch goes Off-Park-Head-Auto. I rigged the Auto postion to keep the head and parking lights on and, if the front fogs are on, it also turns on the rear fog lights.

I rarely use the rear fogs- only in really severe weather. It looks like your brake lights are always on to people who don't know what rear fogs are.

well I'll be honest i'm not really worried if the tail lamp is DOT approved or not I'm sure if it is oem looking they cops are not going to to look for the DOT stamp on there. I have had three VWs that I enabled teh rear fogs on and just wanted to do it on the spectra5 as well. BUt like you said it is and easy to hook them up. Rear fog light is good to get someone off your ass too

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've used my rear fogs for that as well.

I think there may have been a specific feature of the Aussie Elantra sedan tail lamp that was thought to be non-DOT spec, so they gave up on the group buy.
