Help!!! We have a 2004 Kia Rio...the cd player stopped working, so we bought a new stereo...we can't figure out how to wire the stereo because the wiring doesn't fit...we do not have an owners manuel. Do we need some sort of adapter??? If anyone has any idea, please lmk!! Thanks for your help!!!
When you bought your new stereo it should have come with a harness that has a plug on one end and nothing on the other end. You will need to wire that harness into this one. The stereo you bought, is it brand new? If so it should have come with a receiver harness that plugs into the back of the radio. Then you would buy the one that I posted above and wire them together. They are easy to wire together. All of the wires are labeled such as right front speaker postive, right front speaker negative and so on. You just need to match what they say up and hook them together. What type of radio is it?
It is brand new, it is just a cheapo stereo I bought from walmart...I think its a durabrand. The kia wires don't match is the problem...my husband said you can usually cut them and just rewire, but since all the wires are different, he doesn't know what goes where.
Buy the adapter that gets connected to the wiring harness that came with your radio. It should come with color coded instructions. The blue wire typically goes to a remote (like an amplifier), the red goes to ignition hot (only on when the key is turned to on or accessory), the big yellow wire is constant positive power (power all the time). Then you have positive and negative wires for the front right, left, rear right, left, and the antenae. Typically the positive wires are solid in color and the negative ones are the same corresponding color but have some sort of stripe on them. Make sure you have the positive wire disconnected from the battery terminal before you do anything. The speaker wires are usually white, gray, purple, and green. Hope this points you in the right direction.
I have a 2004 Rio I bought new, and the manual (you don't have) would be useless to you anyway, there are virtually no wiring diagrams in there, it's pretty much a maintenance schedule and not much more.
Definitely look to Crutchfield for their adaptors and expertise, they are real experts. Or you might have a "Car Toys" type store do the install if you have something similar in your area.
