Default Double-din or single-din radio?

I have a 2006 Spectra5 with a factory Double-Din stereo. No mp3 support. I've been looking around to find out what I need, if anything, to install a double-din dvd touchscreen replacement stereo. Almost everything I've found shows a single-din radio or a mounting kit to support a single-din radio. I've seen a couple posts here and there that mention having a single-din radio with mp3 support, and one post, just one other post that someone has a double-din in a Spectra5.

I mean, I know mine is a double-din, but I was just curious what everyone else has. If some do have single-din radios or not, and if anyone knows, do I really need a double-din installation kit?

Default Double Din Radio

HI

I have a double did DVD player w/ touch screen in my spectra5. You do need to get a dash kit to instal the radio to cover up the gap between the radio and dash trim. I have the Jensen double din radio . I know what your thinking..... Jensen OH NO!!! but its not bad at all the radio sounds a funtions great. I have XM TV and my Ipod conected to the radio and it all works great. I got my dash kit on Ebay for &buck and 4bucks shipping With the jensen radio I did have to trim about a 1/2 inch off the top and bottom of the dash kit to get it to fit of the radio faceplate but I dont think this would aplly to all double din radios. OH yeah the Jensen radio is NAvi Ready. Here are some pics

Heh, thanks, I just replied to your other post. That's the same one I ordered. I guess I'll go order a double-din installation kit now. And yeah, I bought that one cause it is nav ready. I was looking at a boss model for $400, but it wasn't nav ready, and didn't have the sd memory slot. I got a 1gb sd memory stick for $15 yesterday.

Just a heads up for anyone who owns a Cerato(what the Spectra is called outside the States/Canada). Be careful not to get a dual din radio. The slot that exists there is very deceiving(larger than 1 din but about 1cm smaller than 2). You need to get an new front panel, similar to what's in the Spectra/Spectra5, in order to pull that off.
