I get it, Sirius pays a lot of money to auto manufacturers to be built into the software of the UVO units for three-month trial use.
But after three months, when I politely tell anyone who cares to listen that I won't be paying for or using the third-party Sirius service ever again, will KIA make it disappear from my expensive UVO display, so I don't need to be reminded of something that's taking up real estate that I never wanted in the first place?
Surely KIA will supply a lock/unlock code so I'll never have to be reminded of a dead service, correct? Is that what happens, or will that corporate logo always be hanging around, making my system uglier? Sirius refusers please chime in....
I don't use it (never have on my last two KIA's) and I don't get any screen reminders (I have the UVO system), the only time I would see anything if I happen to push the "SAT" button which I don't use, unless they happen to have one of their frequent free 2-week offers - if I hear about it.
This is how most of the systems work on most Kia models and other manufactures, and it doesn't bother most people, seeing as they'll never see it if they don't push the "SAT" button.
I don't use AM, but have no expectation that it should be removable from my system, I just don't ever select it.
I've never inserted a CD or DVD into my system, ......... I don't have an issue with that either.
It would be like the SAT TV box, if you don't subscribe to certain channels, they don't disappear - you can still key in those channel numbers, but why would you if all you're going to get is a notice that you need to pay for those channels.
Just think of it like AM radio: an outdated service that served its purpose, but is still included in car stereos for those who choose to listen to it.
I've only had two vehicles that had it, and while it was a cool concept 15 years ago, technology moved beyond it fairly quickly. At least in my Forte, the Sirius function is simply part of the "Radio" menu, and doesn't have a dedicated physical button like it did in my 2012 Focus. If you think having it on a display is bad, imagine it printed right there on your dash!
On all the Kias I've tried so far, Ozzy's Boneyard, Hair Nation and Liquid Metal sounds awful, including Cadenza W/ Premium Infinity (which I drive), Sorento (my dad's car), Fortes I use for courses (at least 3-4 days a month) and the Optima I had before my Cadenza. Not to mention every time I do a PDI and I try it.
So I strongly presume the problem comes from Sirrius and the compression ratio for those channels. Never really listen to other channels to compare tho. Or maybe the unit from Kia don't really allow a large bandwith for sat.

Well there's your problem. The stuff on those channels is far removed from real music.....ok ok don't bury me with hate mail...only kidding.
I agree, Sirius is so compressed it's ridiculous. I only ever listened to the comedy channels and those just aren't worth $15 a month or whatever they try to soak you for them.

My last experience with Serius XM was when my 2008 Hyundai Elantra was new (I think it was just called XM back then). It was nice having it during the 3 month trial period and I got sucked into their "renew specials", but soon discovered that their marketing practices were deceptive at best, bordering on predatory IMO. I finally was able to make an agreement with them (by paying a negotiated fee) to cancel a contract I don't think I agreed to in the first place and they agreed to remove the bad marks they had put on my credit score. I vowed at that time I would never use their service again, and haven't.
So here I am again ... traded in the 10 year old Elantra on a new 2017 Optima. Again, I am enjoying the Serius XM trial. But after my experience 10 years ago, I am hesitant to fall into their trap again. Have they improved or are they still doing deceptive marketing?
