Hello all,

I hope everyone is well and enjoying their Sorento, or any other Kia vehicle you might be driving this winter?

Well, if you're like me, and have to always be the guy who goes out in the cold to 'warm up the car' for everyone before you head out to wherever it is you're going, or before heading home at the end of the night, or maybe you are the great hubby that goes out in the morning to warm up the car for the wife, wipe the snow off etc ... what ever your 'task' may be, it sucks, right? Especially when it's like minus 20 Celsius or more outside, not fun regardless of the reason you're heading out while everyone else is warm and toasty inside, right lol?

Well, tonight I went and got a remote car starter installed on my wife's 2013 Kia Soul 4u, as well as on my 2014 Sorento EX V6, with the push button ignition (keyless start), and it works flawlessly. Of course right now (in Toronto Canada) it's not THAT cold out, about 7 Celsius at the moment, but no doubt after this day or two warm streak, it'll be back to miserable old man winter, and this car starter will be worth it's weight in gold lol!!!

I went to 'Car System Installations' in Toronto, and a fellow named Ron (Ronen Yossef) and another employee installed two of the 'Compustar' one way remote car starter systems into our vehicles, and we are super pleased with the results, the work, the end result. Our systems came with two remotes, which are 'one way' remotes, meaning that they send the signal to the car, and it starts, and the successful start is confirmed by the lights flashing twice, and the parking lights staying on after the vehicle starts, but the remote does not tell you that the vehicle was successfully started (one way remote systems are cheaper and we had to get two so we wanted to not spend too much on them).

If you get the two way remote start systems, you can get the key fob/remote controls that have the l.e.d screens, and they tell you if the vehicle started ok, the temperature of the interior etc, how long it's been running, etc. (the vehicle system sends a signal/info back to the remote, so the system has 2 way communication between the remote and the module in the vehicle). They even have systems now that will allow you to start and unlock your vehicle remotely using your smart phone, that's pretty amazing, but also more expensive than the simple one way remote which we got.

Our systems we had installed are the "Compustar" 'Prime Series' 1-Way "RF-1WG6-AM CN" system (which has an approx. 2000 ft range) with two remotes, remote antenna, starter module, all in one data bypass and interface module and complete installation, all for $350 (plus tax) for each vehicle. They have systems that start at $299 (Crime Stopper system) or you can go up to the two way systems which are up in the $400 - $500 range.

As I said, my Sorento is the EX V6 AWD, and has the push button 'keyless' ignition, and this system works perfectly with it. You can lock and unlock the doors with either the factory key fob, or with the remote starter fob, and after you start the vehicle with the remote starter, you simply unlock the door via remote (or with the door handle button as well, if you have the key with you) and get in, press the start button on the dash twice (aux first push, on/run with second push of the button) and then you can drive away. If someone were to get in without the key fob (or factory key) and press the brake pedal, the vehicle will shut off. After it starts, the doors remain locked until you unlock the vehicle. On vehicles with the traditional key start ignition, you simply put the key in the ignition and turn it two clicks forward to the 'on' or 'run' position, and then you can drive away.

The vehicle will run for 15 minutes and then shut off (if left idling for that long without driving away), this is the factory default idle time limit (but this can even be programmed to 3 mins, 15 mins *the system default, and what ours is set to* or even 25 mins, an hour etc.) After the start up is successful, the parking lights flash twice, then the lights and parking lights stay on. My vehicle was also wired up so that it uses the factory hood pin switch as a safety feature. If you're working on the engine, and someone hits the start button on the remote starter remote fob, the vehicle won't start up and possibly injure you while you're in there working away. You can also shut the car down by pressing the start button again.

So if anyone in and around the GTA (Toronto/southern Ontario Canada) is looking to get a remote starter installed into their Kia vehicle (or any vehicle really) I would totally recommend Ron and Car System Installations, and their contact information is as follows:
