I sent an email off to MNSoft to ask them why we haven't seen any available updates for Ver. 11 yet for our Sporty's. Their response below:
Hello Frederick,
Thank you for taking the time to contact us with this inquiry. Normally, we would have released version 11 for all vehicles, but this year we have skipped version 11 for Gen 3 and 4 vehicles (yours is a Gen 4) and will only be updating Gens 1 and 2 models. Your vehicle's next available update should be v11.5 around November of this year. You can find more information about your vehicle's update at that time by visiting 2017 Kia Sportage Map Update-106S58 - Map Updates.....
This just seems way to odd to me. My plan was always to get whole number updates only skipping the ".5s" I guess that changes now. Whether a portion of the updates will be available through UVO we will have to wait and see.
Wow $149 to update the maps on the cars GPS & pay for SiriusXM Traffic.
LOL...
The cars GPS is awful...
The only good thing about it...
If you lose cellular signal you have a GPS. (which I use in conjunction with Waze)
What's wrong with the GPS? I personally hate the voice recognition interface to the NAV system, but once you have a location plugged in, I've found that it does the job of getting me there which is the whole point.
I use Android Auto/Google maps exclusively now for GPS/Nav. I didn't mind the stock KIA/MNSoft nav, although it's definitely inferior in every way to Google, but their update fees are just outrageous and a definite show stopper for me.
Cool thanks for the info, I was waiting for 11 to come out to redeem my one time free upgrade at kia. I would check from time to time the my uvo update website to see if it was out and always wondered why it was not out for my 17 yet
I happen to like the built-in NAV better. It has the entire map built-in and doesn't need to download anything, meaning no cell signal needed. I can go anywhere "off-grid" without worrying data signal usage/availability. It sure doesn't have the most up to date map but most roads don't change on a day to day basis. The real advantage of a cell phone map is the traffic info. What I usually do is check the traffic info first to see if there is any serious blockage. It's still no big deal without it.
Today I updated to 10.5. I already had 10.0(with CarPlay). With 11.5 coming in November supposedly for our Gen 4 Sportages I said what the hell.. Given how much else I've spent on my black beauty whats a few more Uncle Sam's. I wanted to see how the download process works from MnSoft. I used the original SD card that came with my car. Didn't want to use my ver. 10 card in case something went wrong. The SD card gets formatted and info(DEVICE ID and Vin #) you enter prior to the download along with an authentication code assures that the downloaded software is for your vehicle. The updating of the SD card was the longest process. Took forever and I almost bailed on the process. Today I updated the car. Took the same as last time ~ 25 minutes. So far seems a bit faster but time and testing will tell. All my settings prior to the upgrade were still in place.
I would hazard a guess the long time to copy to the the SD card was the encryption process. it is almost certainly locked to your car now and won't work anywhere else.
