I understand how changing the aspect ratio of your tires can mess with the computer’s figuring traction control, speed, etc., but how about changing the width from 245 to 255 (0.394 inch). There are specials and better prices on the 255’s for some reason and they are cheaper at retail.

I suppose the best thing to do is stick with the 245-45-19 tires. Dang they're expensive!
I may have to go through this winter with the stock tires. They are rated poorly on Tire Rack,
but still they're new with lots of tread left. I've survived many many Colorado winters with
worse tires and FWD only.

it is great for comparing tire/wheel sizes

the difference in circumference between the 255 and 245 45 - 19 is about 1.3%, which is just a little more than the +/- 1% you don't want to exceed as a general rule of thumb but you'd likely get away with it provided all 4 are the same of course. It represents about 0.7 mph error at 60. I doubt the extra 10 mm would be problem for the stock wheels

And BTW for those looking for snows, 225/60-17s are almost a perfect match for the stock 245/45-19s, less than 0.2% error. You need to provide 17X7 wheels as well of course

My decision has come down to one choice for snows. Michelin X-Ice Xi3's. Going to get the standard size rather then a taller tire requiring a 17 or 18 inch rim in addition to the tires. Not cheap of course but its my peace of mind. I looked at Tire Rack, Tire Buyer, Town Fair Tire, Discount Tires and several smaller internet outfits. The choice for the cheapest after paying tax and free delivery to a store... Sears. $214.84/plus tax. I kick myself for missing out by a day a per tire price of $204..... I'll just pick up the tires for now.

I'm just buying the tires from Sears. Mounting will be done by a small mom&pop operation that I have used for years. As for lifetime rotation & balance, with the miles I drive a year its pretty well split between winters snows and summers tires.
