Exhaust

just in case anyone is wondering about aftermarket exhaust for this car, I'm posting so you can see what can be done. I decided to use a flowmaster crossflow muffler pn 42583,and flowmaster tips pn 15383. Here's some pics and a link to a sound clip. There is also a Magnaflow brand option that can be used, for a lower db level, and you can see it on a post from the 3rd gen forum...

Update: I got the parts and had trevor at abc muffler build me a new system using two Borla S-Type round mufflers, and VW/Audi exhaust tips. Total cost was close to $800 CAD. I actually felt noticeable power gains with this system throughout the rpm range. Throttle response feels faster, and the turbo feels like it comes in sooner and pulls a little harder. Droning is minimal by my ear... click links for sound

If you went with a low-restriction air filter on the other end, you would get an intake howl to go with that exhaust, and possibly you would be able to feel a little more punch in the seat. But you did a nice job with it and it looks stock enough to escape notice by most people.

Nice Work!

The power gains will be in getting rid of the cat in the downpipe and going to larger diameter through the midpipe section. The downpipe should also fit the 2015+ Sonata 2.0t and 2016+ optima 2.0t.... sadly I have not found anyone that makes one, different turbo than the older models so none of those options work either.

I'm gonna find a shop to fab one up for me and throw in an extra bung for a wideband. A tune will be required after to dial in the boost error correction and targets... another reason I have not done this yet since no one is currently tuning the 32bit ecu's... or they won't contact me back if they are.

to answer skavatar & sloppy: the muffler has been getting quieter as it breaks in, something I also experienced on my '15 SX, using the magnaflow, except this flowmaster has a little more bark to it... the drone at idle is almost gone, and at highway speeds,120 + KMs/hr, it's audible, but easily overcome by the stereo; keep in mind, you have to like a loud exhaust in order to be comfortable in a car with a flowmaster, because there is no packing in it,just baffles, so you can not only hear it,but you can feel it,through the floor of the car. At WOT the muffler's sound just gets overcome by the sound of the turbo blowing....
Call me immature, but it might actually not be loud enough for me, I'm now gathering the parts to build a dual muffler set up similar to one that I saw on youtube, built by a Korean company called junb.ul, check out the link...

mad_sb, if you find tuning software, please, please post your findings, I think this new engine/turbo set up would really benefit from it.

191145, I immediately checked the k&N website when I got this car, and there is no filter for it yet, if you come across something other than K&N,that is high flow, please post.

ps: I think the reduced back pressure of the flowmaster has actually added close to 1L/km of fuel efficiency,as per the car's own computer,

Will do. In the mean time, if you want an intake, the AEM intake for 2016 optima 2015 sonata 2.0t should fit. Bad news is the dealer wants 1250 for the stock ecu so i won't be getting a spare to send out until I can find a reasonable price.

love the look and sound of that JUNB.ul. that is really nice. But...droning on the highway (you can feel it through the floor of the vehicle?) is a no no. i do too much highway time to put up with anything but silence at cruise rpm. i love the peace and quiet in the cabin of the Sportage.

I'ts definitely mellowing down as the miles add up, but yes, this muffler won't be for everyone. The magnaflow version is quieter for extended driving, for sure, but you can still hear it when you go wot; this opinion is based on driving on one for over a year in my 2015 SX. I also do a lot of highway,so I agree with your point, that's why the experiment continues for me, the Borla 5 X 10 X 2.5 in/out, round mufflers are ordered, for the dual muffler system build, after that's done I'll have all my answers.
I'll post some links to interior sound level vids that I hope will help all...

I'm not sure if the V1 is legal here or not, I think maybe not,but I bought it long time ago while in Florida, then just brought it back in the luggage. I've been pulled over many times over the years, and no cop has ever said anything about it, I figure they probably don't know or care.

I'll do another sound clip with some voice input...
