New 2017 Sportage taken back to dealer service already as Climate Control A/C is freezing up. Refrigerant lines, etc. become covered with ice under hood. System quickly reduces to only delivering lukewarm trickle of air despite any type of adjustment on panel.
Dealer said they cannot fix as this is a KIA "Known Issue" supposedly under investigation from KIA techs - no solution timetable given, now facing summer with inoperable A/C.
geez I don't like the sound of that. I have almost 5000 km on a 2017 SX and I can't say as I've had any A/C problems. System seems to work fine so far. How many miles/km on your car?
Express1 it sounds like what I encountered and now my vehicle is at Kia dealer without a solution. What's even worst, the dealer will not provide a loaner and I cannot rent a car without a major "REAL" credit card (no debit/credit card).
Sorry to hear Airrphoto. I will report in here whenever I finally hear from my dealer service or KIA regarding this issue. Please do the same on your end, I would like to know what's going on.
Sloppy, we encountered the A/C issue when making our first long trip in the vehicle (1,000 miles) when A/C was on for over an hour. Before that, our short runs in the city didn't reveal the freeze-up issue.
Looks like my EX with dual auto air conditioning problems was caused by the delivery dealership who never checked the ac coolant which was 1/4 full. It may also require a change-out of the compressor too.
My 2017 Sportage EX has the same issue with the ac stopping working after 1-2 hours continuous use. I ENCOUNTERED THE PROBLEM THE FIRST WEEKEND I USED THE CAR. At first I thought it was operator error on my part. Then the nexte weekend had the same problem which I rekedied by driving w/o ac for 5-10 minutes at hwy speed and it started to work again. Dealer service thinks the system is overcharged and hi-limit switch was kicking out. Now the ac won't come on at all. Taking back to dealership this am to see what can be done. Have 3700 miles on car since purchase on June 16.
I had my first long trip, this weekend, since getting the car on June 27th. I had the same problem, with the same solution of turning the compressor off for a while. I guess I will add this problem to the list for my dealership to look at. I hope it is easily remedied, given this heat!
Would excessive water off the compressor be a symptom? We have about 800 miles on our EX since June 30 but no trip longer than probably 45 minutes. So far I don't think we have had an issue with the AC but I have noticed what seems to me like more than usual amount of water dripping while the AC is running. Has anyone had this TSB done yet?
Excellent point! I notice that when I back down my driveway, even though the car was sitting over night and has not been running, I see a large amount of water from the area where the compressor is. As I back down the driveway, it slopes a good bit, and a significant trail of water is left on the dry concrete, so it is very noticeable.
I will be sure to mention it to the service guys, and I'll report back, if they do the TSB and see if there is an effect.
One thing is, I do love the A/C in the car. It really cools it down quickly, and the cooled seats work better than in any other car where I have had them.
Yikes! This should go under the 'Lemon Law'. The reason I spent mass amounts of money on the Sportage is because my old car had major air conditioning issues.
Absolutely, but my point is that mine seems excessive compared to other vehicles I own or have owned. This is my first Kia so trying to figure if it's normal or truly excessive leading to an HVAC issue.
My EX is going in for service tomorrow. So far, I have not had the freeze up issue but have not had it on a trip longer than 40 miles or so. I talked briefly to the service manager and he is aware of the TSB and says it's just a matter of hooking up a computer and doing an update. My question is, is there any harm in doing this update since I have not had any trouble yet? (Although no long trips either) After the update, does the AC cool just as well or is it throttled back somewhat? Looking for someone with a better understanding of the TSB than me.
Cars built between Dec '15 and June 22 dates are effected. My April SX had the SA update during pre-delivery prep. Works great and gives ice-cold air out of ducts on lowest setting.
In for an oil change on my SX taking advantage of the $170 offer for 3 synthetic oil changes. Service writer asked if I wanted the HVAC updated when he reviewed my SX. I said sure even though I have not had any problems with it to date.
