Just bought a 2017 Sportage EX. Love it. Came with Android Auto but indications online says the 7 inch infotainment system is Android Auto / CarPlay compatible. Articles also indicate that CarPlay is coming soon. My question is, is the infotainment system really compatible with CarPlay and therefore a simple firmware update when it is ready to roll out or am I locked into Android if I want advanced features in my car? I currently have an android phone so it works for now but I have been considering switching to an iPhone. I have a MacBook Pro and an iPad Air 2 so it would make sense to standardize my devices for maximum benefit but not if I can't have the car functionality. Thank you for the feedback in advance.
I also just recently bought a 2017 Sportage and I'm waiting for the release of the CarPlay firmware update. I have the Harman/Kardon system, but I believe every trim level (and every type of factory car stereo) in the 2017 Sportage is CarPlay ready. I think the upgrade process will be straightforward once it's widely released. We should be able to download the firmware from Kia and place it on a USB flash drive. You then connect the flash drive to the USB port in the dash, and the system should recognize the new firmware and prompt you to confirm you want to update it. It takes 15 minutes. This is what I've read.
That being said, it's also possible that we will need to go back to the dealer (although I prefer doing it myself).
I made an inquiry to Kia customer service. The CarPlay update was due in April, but has been rescheduled for June. It will be an software update not a firmware update.
"The Apple Carplay-equipped vehicles are expected to be available during the second quarter of this year, which technically means any day between now and the end of June, and will join the 2017 Kia Sorento, which already offers the tech. And don’t worry if you’ve already purchased one of these cars: Kia said its UVO3 system will be available as a software update to previously purchased 2017 Sportage and 2016 Optima vehicles sometime between July and the end of September."
Received Apple Car Play download pdf from dealer today (5/19/2026) for my 2017 KIA Sportage EX. However, UVO 3.0 is required. My car has UVO 2.0. I contacted my dealer to find out how to upgrade to 3.0 series. Dealer replied that upgrade can be done from the unit already installed, but since step-by-step process may be a bit involved, he suggested I stop by dealership tomorrow so Service Department can make the change for me.
jeepgrady: you are right, dealer was incorrect. UVO 3.0 is installed on my 2017 Sportage EX. Car Play download can be done from home ... once it's available sometime in 3rd quarter (July - Sept) 2017. Spent this morning at the dealer and received apology for premature indication of immediate availability. Thanks for the catch.

- Any idea if this update is worldwide, or only for some countries ?
- upgrade to carplay means you are obliged to use Apple maps instead of Tomtom? I really like the last one
the only way you will know for sure is to contact KIA in your country for confirmation, generally things like this are different worldwide and release times will also vary from country to country.
Just picked up a Sportage this week and my salesmen mentioned it was an update the service tech can apply but I'm assuming she didn't realize the release wasn't available yet. I'm located in the US.
After one week with my new Sportage, I'm very comfortable with the multimedia center and my iPhone: before I take the car, I'm usually listening podcasts on my iPhone using earphone, and with only one click, the podcast is on the Sportage's sound system. I mean, it works fine with IOS and the several audio apps that I use: Apple music, Groove, Overcast, ...
I have an update from the KIA Rep. The Rep. Says the hold up on the release of the Car Play app is by Apple. The app has to be programed for UVO.
Hopefully the app will be released in July. Now where will it be available is another question. The Rep. Says it will be on the KIA-gpsmap.us site, but this site says to go to the MYUVO.com website. The saga continues.
I just received the new nav. update from kia. After installing, it appears that it includes carplay. On my menu there is a button for it right next to the Google auto. Since I don't have an iphone, I can't verify.
My local Kia person can't seem to figure this out. I downloaded the upgrade from the KIA site on a USB drive and will try to upgrade later. Ist that enough?
Just took delivery of a 17 EX. Carplay is enabled. Requires USB cable connection. On the menu it shows greyed out until you connect iPhone via USB and then it becomes enabled.
Have you tried the Carplay functions available yet? What is the build date of your EX? For your Nav system are you running V10 or V9.5? Sorry for the questions but many of us are waiting who will have to do the update via a USB download.
Did you get the Nav option? That could mean that the Nav system has CarPlay and the UVO eServices has yet to to provide CarPlay. The Nav system update cost $$$$ and is only for the Nav system. We are still not sure if the update will come from the MYUVO site.I am guessing that the USB cable is the standard USB cable for the iPhone. Or did KIA provide a special USB cable with the car?

Well Carplay is here! I just installed Ver 10. of GPS updates from MNsoft. The upgrade didn't go quite like the included documentation but no hiccups. ie; Didn't show the screen to Agree to terms.
After everything started I checked the Connectivity Settings. Their was an option for Carplay and it was enabled. On the All Menus screen there was an icon for Apple Carplay but it was greyed out as mentioned in a response in this thread. Connectings a USB cable to my iPhone 6 turned the icon on and disabled my bluetooth. I selected the icon and it brought up all the options such as Now Play, Messages, Music, etc.
I tapped Now Play and it picked up a Steve Miller tune I was listening to via Bluetooth earlier.
I did voice command to play another song title and worked perfectly.
I then texted my daughter by voice. Worked. A response back was read back to me by Siri.
Did you have to pay for the map update? On the mapnsoft.com site it is listed at $189.00. It should be free as it is standard, at least on the EX.
Did you download it directly from mapnsoft.com or get it from the dealer and how much did you pay? It says it comes on an SD card so not sure if it can just be downloaded or if I would have to wait for it to be shipped?
Can you specify exactly which model, trim level, and options you have? I am interested in a buying a 2017 Sportage EX AWD. Hope this update works on that.
I'm a new owner of a 17 SX. I found this site today and after reading this thread I checked my Version and it is an older version. I called the KIA 1-800 number and explained this to the REP and she is sending me the V10 update....free! She said Carplay is included with the update so I'm good to go.
Really enjoying my new Sportage SX (Burnished Copper with Beige Leather interior) Loves the way it drives and feels really solid. So far so good.
Randy_ I paid full price on the upgrade... plus shipping and handling... Had I waited a day, an unrelated event brought me back to the dealer and the service dept. There on the counter was a KIA offer for 3 map updates in 5 years for a special price... I forget what it was but I grumbled... Unfortunately you can't just download and put on an SD card... MNsoft controls the entire process.... When you get your EX and it has the NAV package it will have an initial SD card with whatever level of updates were available at that time. Subsequent updates are on you unless you can get your Dealer to cough it up.
I called the customer assistance line, they are sending out the new version at no charge. They were very happy to help out and offered to send the new version before I could even ask for it.
Well I just got off the customer assistance line to Kia. I was told that the nav 10.0 does not have CarPlay, but the 10.5 may have CarPlay.
Lots of speculation, guessing and miss information going around. I was told the CarPlay app for eServices is now scheduled for the Fall and will be available on MYUVO. First May, then late June, then July and not who knows when. I am a retired computer programmer. CarPlay is an IOS app and only needs to interfaced with eServices. How hard can that be for a good programmer? >
I like my cust rep better! She told me V10 will have CarPlay and fredp in post 26 said he got the v10 upgrade and now has CarPlay. I guess I;ll find out in a week.
At this rate who knows when CarPlay will be ready or the non Nav/'s?????? One wonders if the CS reps are in the same location and sharing the same information.
Carplay working OK on my 17 EX from delivery date (6/30).
UVO3 with 7 inch screen, no navigation (EX with Premium Package).
Build date 05/16
SW version 073.160416
FW version 213.160405
I connect iPhone via USB and get the Carplay options... music, Apple Maps, Phone, Messages, Podcasts, etc. When connected via Carplay, Bluetooth connection is disabled.
2016 Optima owner here, lurking for info about Carplay, as they're supposed to give us the update next quarter.
On the Optima forums, some have reported that when using Android Auto, their phone continues to lose battery power as the USB charges at a slower rate than the phone is consuming the power. Have you noticed if your iPhone charge level increases when using Carplay? Stays the same? Decreases? I mean for short trips, losing a little power wouldn't be a big deal, but over a long road trip, it would be. I certainly didn't think the phone would consume more power than the charger could deliver.
What's your experience been?
