Default SX turbo reliability

Hi. I'm really considering getting a SX turbo in a couple months, but I'm leery of the turbo itself. The warranty is great, but the last thing I want is a car in and out of the shop for repairs. Has anyone had or know of any issues with the turbo? Any other issues to be aware of before getting one? First new car jitters I guess. Thx.

I attended the press launch for the SX and sat next to one of the lead engineers for the turbo engine. While we can't bend space and time, he insisted that the engine was tested within an inch of it's life. Their concern about durability was one of the reasons the turbo was designed in-house and not just bought from Mitsubishi. He brought up the fact that Kia (and Hyundai) have a 10 year powertrain warrantee and if the turbo couldn't take the stress, it would be very expensive for the company. Kia and Hyundai aren't the only ones going the turbo route, look at Ford, and GM. Here's a link to my review- 2011 Kia Optima SX HD Video Review drivencarreviews.com

Not only is the turbo rock solid but the whole 2.0 turbo engine is bullets. I have sold more than I can count and even have a customer that purchased one of the first 11's when we finally got them last year that has ~26k miles and hadn't had an oz of touble.

Other than the waste gate svc action, there have been no svc campaigns enacted.

Be confident that your purchasing the best (in myriad categories) mid sized sedan.

But 2 trips to the dealer and they cannot find why my Turbo works when it wants too. Problem is, they have not been able to reproduce the problem. If we power off and restart the car, the turbo works again. Maybe the turbo was made my Microsoft?

Finally got my car to the dealer when the problem was happening. Had to sit with the car running for almost 2 hours until the dealer opened up. Long story short.. No Check Engine light, but the computer was listing a P2565 code (Boost Control Sensor.) The fix was the SA119 (Adj rod.)

I asked my dealer if this could be the issue both times the car was in the shop. Today, the dealer did not want to talk about it... They missed it!

Turbo died again. Does it when the car sits for a period of time. The fix is to restart the car. 4 trips to the dealer and no fix. As my state does have a lemon law, I've sent Kia the required certified letter and now they have one more chance to fix it. Kia is sending a tech from Atlanta to look at the car. If they don't fix it, they will have to give me 100% of the cost back (including taxes and fees.)

Would like to keep the car as my wife loves it, but not with the daily doa turbo issues.
