Default Navigation map updates

Got the Optima Hybrid a month ago. Noticed that the navigation system's map is quite outdated, possibly more than 1 year old since some roads have become one way here in Portland long time ago but the map is still trying to guide us onto it in the wrong direction.

Does anybody know where to get updates? The manual and web site tell us how to do the update (using the USB drive port in the car) but not where to get updates. Our dealership (Beaverton Kia) doesn't provide updates, or know where to get it. Kia web site doesn't have it. Called Kia's Customer Assistance Center. They said to talk to Mapnsoft, the mapping company that actually does the updates. They said they don't have an update now but when they do, they want $199. Not sure if it's a lifetime fee or for each update.

We feel that in paying a lot of money for the car, we customers should be given the updates for free (as you would buying a TomTom) and at the very least, be given clearer directions on where to get updates. Anyone else has information on this??

Thanks!

That is the story with built in Navi - dealer or car manufacturer or whoever WILL charge you for every single update. And that update will cost you more than buying handheld car Navi (Garmin, TomTom, etc.).
Even though built in Navi is nice (trip computer, big screen, fancy radio, etc.) you will pay for the 'convenience'. If I am to get built in Navi I will negotiate lifetime map updates (at least one per year) or I will not buy car with built in Navi.
I am happy with my Garmin (4 times a year free map updates for life) which I can move from car to car and not to worry about being obsolete. Yes, the cable is visible; screen is smaller; no trip computer, no radio but nobody is ripping me off every time I want up to date maps.

You should be persistent and find why Kia does not provide map updates through dealership. You should not go to the third party for that because if you do and do map update and something goes wrong and Navi become unusable do you think Kia will say 'no problem we will fix it for free since we have the greatest warranty on Earth'???

Map updates can be purchased here. Unfortunately, it says that they're not in stock ATM.

How wonderful! All they want to upgrade the NAV data in essentially a brand new 2011 SX is $200.00 !! What's in the system right now will get me close enough to any place I need to go thank you very much. Finite details can be down loaded from the Internet for free, or heaven forbid, I could actually use an old fashioned folding map like we used to .

Exactly my feeling. I ain't going to pay anyone $200 for updates. I do not really use it (I know, I know, you'll ask why did I get it? In Canada SX comes in one flavour only - fully loaded). I like the big screen, and I will use the GPS maybe once a year. If it gets me anywhere close to where I need to get, I can ask for directions - or not. They could do so much more business if they would sell updates for $25 instead a crazy rip-off $200.

Thanks for the link. It appears my update will cost $99. (2012 Sportage). I think I can wait until I win the lottery or decide on a really long road trip.

BTW, here's a tip from a long-time GPS user. If you're going on a road trip to a different part of the country, take along your GPS but also go to a book store and buy a road atlas. Stuck outside of Little Rock AR during a flood, my road atlas trumped my GPS because I was able to see the entire state at a glance, including county names. I was able to call county sheriffs to check on road closings and managed to find my way around flooded roads.

The atlas is also faster when you want to take a different route, or just verify that the GPS's route is the best.

And, of course, during the zombie apocalypse, satellites will probably be offline anyway.-)

I had the update done and it did not make a difference. It was a waste of time. I got them to give me back my money. Don't do it.

Default 2012 Optima Hybrid - Map/Software Update Story

I'm on my third NAV unit (way too long of a story to go into here) but this current radio had problems with Traffic button taking too long to come up and being slow in general. It had the 'V4' software. Apparently the V4 software even found it's way onto 2013 Optima SXLs as they were a late 2012 model. My second radio had the V5 software like my wife's 2013 Sportage SX had...visually much better and seemed to operate much faster on basically the same hardware. So I updated it via USB from HYUNDAI MNSOFT - HYUNDAI & KIA and it works MUCH BETTER. This current update (7U05) includes updates to both the software and maps. Traffic button comes up within seconds of startup, much better display and menus, etc. Will be watching to see if some known problem areas on the map data have been fixed or not.

So the benefits of a software update really depends upon where you're starting from...

How do I locate the software version. Thanks.

Id be curious if they added functionality via Bluetooth streaming of Pandora to show song name/artist. The cheaper UVO does this (Verified this today) streaming Pandora via BT from my galaxy note 2. Showed the song title!!
