I've got HIDs. Doesn't make a big difference on a crappy morning like we had today. And like I said, it was in the middle of a construction zone with temporary lines, uneven pavement...what a mess.

I didn't have time to linger to do a close look as I parked and hurried to my flight, but at a glance it looked like the camber was off on that wheel. I just hope that's all it is, and my control arm isn't bent or anything.

Damn, that sucks! - Hopefully it isn't too bad, i am shocked the 45 was enough to prevent total wheel damage.

On a side note, my (then) 2 week old Subaru Impreza had a similar event and I got the county to pay for new wheel & tire (both were destroyed).

Hope all is well. that is why I always get the wheel and tire warranty when I buy a new car. My Nissan Spec-V I had awhile back needed a new heel and tire froma pothole. It would have been over $600 if I didn't have the warranty. The warranty was $400. But easier when I bought the car then to have to come up with the money then. And also if it had happened again. Good luck. Hopefully you'll be lucky.

Went to the dealership this morning. They had the replacement wheel cap as promised, and spent an hour and a half checking the wheel and suspension components and test driving.

Verdict: the wheel is ever so slightly bent (not enough to see with the naked eye, apparently), but it balanced out to 0 and there's no vibration. No damage to the tire. No damage to suspension components. He said if I wanted to be extra-careful, I could always have an alignment done, but he didn't detect any drifting (and I didn't either), and he said he didn't think it was necessary to spend the money on that until the regular alignment interval at 12,000 miles.

Total charge: about $36, ~$22 for the center wheel cap and ~$12 to rebalance the wheel, plus tax.

Ultimately, I was insanely lucky that's all that happened with how hard I hit that pothole at 65 mph. And I was impressed with the dealership (Butler Kia in Fishers, IN), they were very courteous, understanding, and didn't charge me for their time to check everything -- just the part and the balance. I didn't even buy my car from them. So thumbs up there.

Glad it worked out for you and wasn't much more serious, I'm always worried about hitting those deep pot holes too, they're out there so I guess I'll just have to jump over them if I see them!

It wouldn't surprise me if many brand new wheels (especially aftermarket) aren't perfectly round. When I was worried about getting an SX with the sport wheels I had the parts department quote me a price for the luxury wheels, and they're about $550 each. For that kind of money, I think I'd pass if the wheel balances and there are no handling issues.

Glad your car came through the ordeal relatively unscathed, Roger.
