Default iPhone 4 + Optima?

Has anyone been able to connect their iPhone 4 with the car's usb/aux input? I got the cable and it isnt working for me. it just keeps saying its trying to read the iPhone but it never mounts. Nor does it charge because it keeps cycling between non-charging and charging. any ideas? id hate to have to continue to have it stream via bluetooth, especially since i cant control it via steering wheel controls.

Helio - here's some information from another forum that might be helpful...pertains to the Sportage but I think its basically the same.

Hi, I have just got a new sportage and was worried about this after seeing this thread. I have now tried and have got things working well, including Bluetooth from the iPhone at the same time as music- but it is very confusing, as you can stream music via the Bluetooth or the official cable. You can only change tracks and see the info on the display if you are using the cable.

These steps assume the iPhone is already paired.

First plug in the Kia cable (only works with proper Kia cable- note 3.5mm Jack is not a normal headphone socket). Then start the vehicle. Wait for the Bluetooth to go on and link up to the iPhone. Now plug the cable into the dock connector in the iPhone. This is a bit of an exacting way of doing it but if you deviate it will not work- ie if you plug in before Bluetooth is online the output will swap to bluetooth as soon as it is connected.

Tomtom app works well, as does iPod app and calling with the phone. Every single time I get a not made for iPhone pop up but practically have no problem (no sound or usability issues).

Hope this helps.

didnt work for me. i dont know what im going to do other than buy an iphone car charger. it sucks that it has ipod compatability but why ipod and not iphone. so what if it interferes with the cellphone reception. at least let the buyer choose what they want to do rather than making the choice for them. for the record, the ford fusion has no issues with iphone.

Go ask your dealer.

Im currently driving the first Sonata to have the USB/3.5mm input.

I didnt buy the OEM Hyundai/Kia Cable cuz it was overpriced but bought something that looks exactly the same but cheaper.

Everything works fine for me.

iPod from my iPhone 4 can be controlled with either steering wheel controls or center controls. Also I can operate the Navigation app. simultaneously with iPod and both comes our thru the car speaker while its charging.

My only gripe is the cable is really short !

It should definetly work.
