2015 Kia Optima UVO Update in Canada

I am the proud new owner of a 2015 Kia Optima SX Turbo in Canada and recently found out that our friends south of the border where able to get Apple Car Play support with a recent update free of charge. I then decided to try and register my vehicle on the myuvo with no luck. After further investigating I found out that Kia unfortunately does not provide this update for free for Canadian Optima Owners So then I called Kia only to find out that I would have to pay $199.00 USD to get the update which I'm not about to do.

I then found a VIN for a US registered 2015 Kia Optima SX Turbo and used on myuvo successfully giving me access to the US update. I then formatted and configured a SD card successfully with the update and everything looks great. My question is can I use this update on my Car? I worried it will cause problems unforeseen to me or just not work.

Any ideas?

Yeah, pretty sure that may not be legal. At the very least you violated the terms of service by providing false information.

Not sure how you were able to get it to download as it requires an OEM SD card to be present, with correct versions on it, to be able to even download it.

And no, it won't work. Canadian vehicles have different software versions than US vehicles so the update won't work as it won't find the correct version to upgrade from. Your software version will have "CAN" in it where the US versions have "USA" in them.

You have to be careful with UVO updates. It's very easy to lock up and make the radio useless. I have seen that before with some European models trying to convert to US specs. Voids the warranty also and Kia definitely will not cover that.
