2016/2017 Question

There is a part, I am not sure what it is called on each side of the car just behind the frame. A plastic skid plate/splash guard of such. On my 2017, there is a gap between the frame and the plate. Only on passengers side. Drivers side it seems straight. It's almost like it is warped a little. I can push it back up but it pops right back down. I am not a car guy so I don't go messing around on a week old car. I checked another Rio 5 on the lot and it was the same thing. Can any other owners 2016 or 2017 out there let me know if theirs is the same. I'll try to take a pic and upload tomorrow.

Looks like a trip to your dealer to have them check it out. Looks as though it needs a dose of liquid adhesive in there to make it secure - and watertight! Get it checked.

Watertight? This is not my engine skid plate. It is right under the passenger door and goes approx. from wheel to wheel. The plastic plate has drain holes in other areas so I doubt it needs to be water tight. I think it's more for protecting the undercarriage from rocks, debris etc. I cant seem to find a service manual so I don't know what to actually call the part I am asking about.

I just looked at our 2014. Not a 5, it's a sedan but it has the same plastic plate/pan on both sides as you described. Though not as bad as the picture, ours does have a little 'sag' on both sides. Can't see a gap but I can push them up about a 1/2 inch or so on each side. It seems to be held on by a few 10 mm bolts. I guess you could take it off and tweak it some kind of way, maybe with a heat gun in attempt to make it fit more flush but I don't really thing it's that big a deal.

I just visited a different dealership, actually the one my wife bought her 15 Rio and checked out 2 different 2017's one a Rio5 and one a Sedan. Both had the same issue however the 5 had it on the passenger side like mine and the sedans was actually on the driver side. Very weird. I'll get them to check it at my first service in 6k.
