Official launch of this all new model at the Montreal Auto Show

Unique in the segment is the combination of a standard heated steering wheel, heated seats and a five-inch multimedia display with rear view camera.

The 2018 Kia Rio 5 will arrive at dealers this summer, with pricing to be announced approaching its arrival.

Hi, my loan for my 2012 EX ends next month. For some time, I thought I would make the jump to a 2018 model. Salesman said I would be very excited with the new Rio. Not so fast. Never liked VW style, I mean Golf. This new Rio is too much oriented toward this style. elupo1980 is right: Kia ruined a very nice design to go mainstream. My 2 cents.

the new Mexican plant is slowly increasing production on this new model, but far from supplying Canada and the US.

Jan they built 877 units
Feb they built 1,992 units
(for comparison in February they built 10,440 Forte's at this plant)

Kia Media in the US has still not made an official announcement on this next generation Rio yet.

Update on release timeline in Canada?

Curious if anyone has an update on release timeline in Canada? My lease ends the last week of June, hopeful to be able to hop into a new 2018 Rio5.

Currently have a 2013 Rio5 LX+. Had a look at the 2017 Forte5 EX, which may be my backup if the new 2018 Rio5 does not release within June.

this is all I've found so far:
The all-new 2018 Kia Rio 5-door will be manufactured at Kia’s manufacturing facility in Mexico and will be available in Canadian dealerships this summer. Pricing will be announced closer to the vehicle’s launch date.

maybe your local dealer or Kia Canada might be able to provide you with a more accurate release time.

So I've read in several places cargo volume with the seats down has dropped to 32 cubic feet (from 47)!
Can anyone confirm this is accurate? It's a huge reduction if true.
Power looks to be dropping as well, 130hp, 119lb/ft...
depends where you are find out the info, as in many European countries the cargo is only measured to the window level, where in most cases in the US and Canada it's the total cargo volume to the roof-liner.
I haven't come across the figure with the seats down, but the cargo capacity with the seats up has increase from 15.0 cu. ft. in 2017 to 17.4 cu. ft. for 2018, so from that I would say with all the seats down it could be slightly larger (2017 is 49.8 cu. ft.) or at least the same. The wheelbase has increased slightly from 101.2" to 101.6" so possibly a bit more leg room in the rear.

there is some very limited info on this model on the Kia Canada website Kia Canada - rio2018 but nothing regarding power or cargo capacity.

Read Auto News 2018 Kia Rio 5-door makes North American debut in Montreal | Autofile.ca

"The revised Rio grows slightly in length (15 mm), width (5 mm) and wheelbase (10 mm), and in the process gains shoulder room and legroom; despite losing 5 mm in height. As a result, the hatchback’s cargo space increases to 493 litres, 68 litres more than in the current model."

"Less power, better acceleration?
What's interesting about these numbers is that they are actually down from those in the previous version by 7 hp and 5 lb-ft of torque. According to Ted Lancaster, vice president and COO at Kia Canada, changes have been made to create “greater low-to-mid range driving acceleration,” apparently at the expense of some peak output."

Thanks for sharing this info :) My lease is up at the end of June, hopeful to be able to get a Rio5 EX 2018. If not, I'll most likely get a Forte5 EX 2017 (best pricing I can find for the features you get). No need for the larger car, greatly enjoying the size of my current 2013 Rio5 LX+.

As per my situation above, have you heard of a release time-frame? My local dealer had nothing concrete, but they were thinking late June would be the absolute earliest, but most likely a July release. Realizing they are trying to get me into a Forte5 EX 2017 now, instead of waiting 2 months for the Rio5 EX 2018 ;)

Have had a 4th gen. Rio for two weeks now. At least in European model quite an improvement to previous model what comes to equipment and powertrain.

This one has 1.0 litre 3-cylinder turbocharged GDI engine producing 120PS@6000RPM and 172Nm@1500-4000RPM. Transmission is six-speed manual.
Mine is Finnish "TX" variant, but equipment is similar to British "1st edition" except mine doesn't have (fake) leather seats.
For winter conditions, nordic variants with 1.0 liter T-GDI (gasoline) or 1.4 liter CRDI (diesel) come with 1000W PTC heating element installed in cabin ventilation channel

It looks like the 2018+ is selling well and there seem to be a fair amount of posts about the new models, so it might indeed be a good time to create a 4G section?

The Canadian and US models seem to have some notable features differences with the Canadian models having a higher spec set, and it will be interesting to see if any of those show up in US models in the second year of the fourth generation in 2019.

I really find the 2018+ model to be sharp looking inside and out.
