They HAD to admit it because of the EPA audits. I just bought my sportage in August and mpg was a big factor in my decision also along with other factors like having more room for our new baby and safety features etc but not have to spend a bought load upfront to get a little extra mpg. That is why for the cost I paid for the new car along with the features AND MPG it was a good deal compared to other competitors. Now that the mpg has gone down and I knew it would based on what I was getting for mpg since buying the car it really kind of feels like I got scammed. For all those saying 1 mpg city 2mpg highway is nothing then you must also like getting scammed by other companies. It is false advertising. Who cares what Ford etc are doing. When you make a purchase this big you expect what you bought and whats on the spec sheet to be correct.

One of the reasons why we purchased this vehicle was because of the labeled fuel saving over the compact SUV it replaced. Unfortunately its not better but it is not worse...

I am hoping they will reflash the ECU to fix the falsified calculated fuel economy. We can drive hundreds of highway miles and only to view the calculated fuel economy of 29+mpg which is in reality 24mpg calculated. The system is always 2 mpgs generous in mixed and city driving and always 5+ on the highway.

This is weird. When my computed average shows 29 and i fill up, i calculate the average to be 29 (+/- 1mpg) by doing the gallons filled over tripped odo. I have NEVER seen a difference that large in my calcs. If i did, i would presume i assumed the wrong amount somewhere or forgot to trip my odo.

How are you doing the calcs that show the calculated mpg is off?

What CUV did you have before that you were replacing? I don't mean to pry, but if you were looking for economy, wouldn't the 2.4L n/a be a better choice? it makes as much power as any other i4 CUV or small SUV.

Furthermore, what other options did you have, if you needed a CUV/Small SUV that have better mileage? As far as i see, unless you want to take a chance at buying an Escape 1.6L ecoboost during the fire sale, you have to settle for worse mileage AND higher cost.

Sorry, but Turbo Gasoline Direct Injection is a performance system, sure you can rig one to run economically, but that generally means severely limiting the RPM. Which is what i find is needed if i want to get my best mpg. If you step on the gas or have a heavy foot, then you can expect worse.

This thing either sips on the gas (40mph 5th gear IDLE on level ground @ 1750rpm) or guzzles it (burnouts to third, hard gas hard brake). YMMV

We have the heavier AWD SX... We came from an '06 AWD, heavier, V6 (honda powered) Saturn Vue. The sportage in this confirguration was to give us a couple of mpgs better fuel economy.

I calculate the fuel mileage the same way as you. As far as driving style it doesn't matter if we run strictly eco mode (which cuts the turbo/shifting points) or normal. The main driver isn’t heavy footed.

Both direct injection and turbo’s are great for performance/power, but in actuality are designed to increase the fuel economy and decrease emissions.

We still love the vehicle for what it does and the build quality. The "bonus money" makes up for the lose in expected fuel economy.

Sounds like a lot of crybabies who really should have bought a Prius.

The only reason this is even an issue is because a lot of lawyers are scum.

You're funny. The only reason why there is the issue is because a corporation lied and deceived hundreds of thousands of consumers and couldn't get completely away with it...

The true travesty is that the prius buying tree huggers do not understand their prius has caused more pollution and environmental issues/devastations just in the production of the batteries than my '12 5000# VW Touareg TDI will over its useful running life... Oh and because I am so concerned about the fuel economy it is so sad that I can run the highways in comfort at 70+ mph and still pull in low 30mpgs'... My worst fuel economy in the Touareg is still better then the best I can get in the sportage...

It’s not always about the money…

OHH MY GOD! CORPORATIONS LIE!?!? These capitalist bastards are willing to tell me anything and manipulate data to get my money!

Are you telling me that some HEARTLESS, SOULLESS business is only after my money and not about being friends?!?

But i thought that when i paid for something, that meant the guys that sold it are my buddies and buddies don't lie to each other. To think that after all that, they would overestimate the mileage by 1 mpg! THE NERVE! And then, they had the temerity admit to it, and want to TRY to make it up to me by PAYING ME BACK, in (plastic) cash, AS LONG AS I HAVE THE VEHICLE?!?

THOSE SNEAKY BASTARDS!

/s

You must be new around here. Welcome to America!

But seriously, if you were all about mileage, you should have got a prius. And if you are surprised that any company, LET ALONE AUTO MANUFACTURERS, would have any qualms about elaborating on the truth or just straight up manipulating the data, then you are gonna have a tough time here on earth.

It's a dog eat dog world out there. Woof.

Enjoy the maintenance bills on the Touareg, i hear the shipping is almost more than the service rate. And you'll probably only need to wait a week or so to get them in. Also, if your DIESEL is only getting 30mpg at 70mph, you aren't doing something right. They usually get 40's to 50's, at least, according to the commercials. VW lies too, guy.

If it's not about the money, then WHAT IS THIS WHOLE THREAD ABOUT?!?

PS: Excellent point on the prius. My condescending sister-in-law and her "environmentalist" husband have 2 hybrids (1 insight, 1 prius) and can't stop raving the mileage they get and how much more i burn, and how much more i spend using the car, and how much better theirs is for the environment. It's sad, because HE drives them like a bastard when she isn't around, flogging them and racing as best he can. I begged her to convince/let him buy a nice Toyaburi RWD or a truck, but he "wanted" the prius. When they get extra smarmy, i ask them what they are going to do with all the lead in their car, not to mention the toxic chemicals it's soaked in. Furthermore, the new Prius cost MORE than my SX. Also, they live in Houston and bitch about the AC not being good (or not running at stop in the case of the insight). personally, i use mass transit to reduce my trips, which reduces pollution overall.

How long does it take to get the gas card once mileage is verified at the dealer? It's been going on 3 weeks since the dealer took the mileage down and I still have no card. Also does the card verify what mileage it was taken at?

as you didn't fill out your location, I don't know where you are located. But here in Canada, the reimbursement is submitted just like a warranty claim, so the odometer reading in noted on the processing copy which goes into the Kia Canada database and I get a copy of that for my records. Can't see the VISA debit card having anything to do with mileage, it's simply a dollar amount of the claim.

I submitted mine on November 15 and have not seen mine yet, they told me 3-4 weeks, but I figure 4-6 weeks.

Well I never got any written copy of what mileage the service manager wrote down (he took the mileage down on a business card as well as the VIN#) and just told me he would register me in the system even though I told him I already signed up for the program online. If is 3-4 weeks then I will wait another week or 2 before getting concerned.
