Plastidip. Is it worth it?

Just wondering for those of you that have used plastidip. How does it hold up? Is it very hard to apply?

So far so good: I applied a few coats of black Plasti-dip on my RoadRuns front grille and I haven't noticed any signs of it coming off.

I also applied a few coats of it on an Apple 30-pin to Lightning adapter and I decided to remove it. The edges on the adapter were rather sharp and with the constant removal and installation of my iPhone (with case) on the adapter caused the Plasti-dip to peel back slightly from the sharp edge of the adapter. It didn't look to appealing so I decided to remove it from the adapter. Once I was able to grab an edge of the Plast-dip I came off quite easily and didn't leave any residue.

It's quite easy to apply, you just need patience (to make sure each coat dries before you start on the next coat) and an even spray painting technique (keep the nozzle perpendicular to the surface) to get an even coat. Wear gloves or use one of these:

Thanks. Thats good to know. Is there differnt types? Im looking to do my rims and possible some trim on my other car. So would i use the same can on both?

Different types of what?

From what I've read, you should look at using one entire can per rim.

Different types of plasti dip. Like different types of paints some for steel some for plastic. Is this the same way?

The coloured one can be used on any surface. I believe the clear and glossifiers can/should only be used over top of a surface that has been coated with Plasti-dip.

I've used the clear, just the same at the the coloured ones. I'm currently testing it on my license plates to see how well it stands up as the front one gets the most exposure. It's been on about 3 months, so we will see how it gets through the winter months, but so far is doing well. I've also used the clear to expand the OEM 3m patch behind the rear doors as its not really large enough to do a proper protection job, the only problem is the clear is a matte finish and not shiny so it tends to be more noticeable. I have black also but have not used it for anything particular at the moment. On the Soul forum many owners have used the Plasti-dip for rims, particular the ones with the base models that have the hub caps. The beauty of Plasti-dip is if you don't like it or screw up you can peal it off and it leaves not residue and the item is back in its original state. Lots of info on Youtube on applications too.
