Default reverse camera installation / headliner removal

Hi,

I'm looking for advise how to route the reverse camera cables from the back to front of the car?

I had a go at removing the headliner at the weekend but lost my nerve as it looks like a pretty big job and I didn't want to damage the headliner/sunroof assembly (even with KGIS help).

Have others routed the cables under the headliner (or some other way)?
What advise do you have removing the headliner?
Any pictures?

Thanks,
Ewan

Try the moulding if you can or buy a long heavy gauge wire maybe you can push it through the across headliner and then IF you make it through tie your camera wires on to it and you can pull the wire back out along with the camera wire with it... (just throwing out ideas)

LED (Interior, back up, license plate), 5k lows HIDs, 6k halogen highs, 3k fogs, chrome/amber turn signals, euro running boards, factory painted spoiler, Rebadged, clear rear turn signals, Fiamm horns, husky floormats, window visors, shark fin antenna.

Or what about along the floor? Either under the carpet or the sills (there's a bunch of wiring there).

Just throwing out ideas as well.

Thanks for the feedback so far but the camera is fitted to the tailgate, so the only point that connects the tail gate wiring (tail light/reverse light/number plate light) to the rest if the car is the hinge at the top where there is a rubber shroud going into the headliner.

Once you run the wires under the carpet or the door sills and into the cargo area, you can remove the interior side panels and run the wires up to the headliner as close to the tailgate as possible. You can easily peel back the weatherstripping from the tailgate opening and carefully bend the headliner to be able to reach in and grab the wires (they did this when they had to loosen the antenna base when I had some vinyl installed on part of my roof). From there you can probably run the wire through the grommet at the top of the tailgate opening, remove the interior trim pieces on the tailgate itseft and then continue the wires to the licence plate area.

Again, just throwing it out there.

I ran my wiringalong the floor, tucking it behind the plasric mouldings, then in to the boot areaand up the passenger side tailgate rubber, the thro the large grommett, was not easy bit it is a nice neat finish

I'm looking to retrofit the rear camera into my Sportage LX. Can you let me know what parts you needed and where you got them?
Thanks!

I'm going to try wiring it the way you guys have suggested. Thanks for the responses.

RE: retrofitting a reverse camera - I bough the Witson headunit from ebay and this reverse camera. You need to be careful when selecting the correct reverse camera as they are different for different model sportage's.

After ordering a reverse camera with the witson headunit which didn't fit, I took a picture of the number plate light (where the camera fits) and looked for the closest match on ebay, you'll see there are a variety which are all slightly different shapes.

I also ordered led number plate lights from ebay as the light in the reverse camera I bought is led, so it looked wrong having one led and one normal bulb.
